Welcoming May with Fun Outdoor Games for Dogs

All Posts dog blog my dog hates me pet humor the hungry puppy

As we leave April showers behind and welcome the merry month of May, we, at The Hungry Puppy, are buzzing with excitement. Why? Because it is the perfect time for pet parents to pull out those walking shoes and enjoy some fun outdoor games with our dogs. We bet your tail-wagger has waited all winter long for moments like these, avidly gazing outside the window, tail twitching at the sight of the warming world.

The joys of outdoor frolic and May's pleasant weather are unparalleled. It's the perfect time to enrich your canine’s life with activities that keep their body healthy and mind sharp. So, what can you look forward to in this jolly month? Let's start with the old-fashioned game of 'Fetch.' You might be thinking, "That's so ordinary!" But drop in The Hungry Puppy, and you'll change your mind. We have Chuckit! or Kong toys, adding twists to the traditional fetch. Picture a new-fangled toy bobbing around your yard in unpredictable directions, and your pup gleefully scampering to catch it!

Taking fetch one notch higher is a game of 'Frisbee.' If your dog has an impressive vertical leap, Frisbee can be a thrilling game. It not only boosts their strength but also enhances coordinative abilities. If you haven't tried it yet, now is the chance! Light humor aside, nothing invites dog giggles (well, if they could giggle) like a Frisbee soaring high in the sky on a sunny May day.

Apart from fetch and Frisbee, May invites us to spruce up our training sessions with obstacle courses. Combine fun with learning by setting up hurdles, tunnels, or weave poles in your backyard. And did we mention The Hungry Puppy has a free dog park? Our safe, fenced-in area offers ample space for practicing these agility-based games or even just releasing pent-up energy from the winter.

Another delightful activity that maximizes their sniffing potential is a treasure hunt. Hide your dog’s favorite Bil-Jac or Canine Caviar treat around your yard or at the park, and watch them enthusiastically follow their nose. It's a captivating sight to see their tails wagging like crazy as they hunt down their tasty treasure.

Let's not forget tug-of-war, an all-time favorite outdoor pastime. A harmless, supervised tug game is an excellent exercise for your dog's body and mind. Plus, it can also teach them important lessons about self-control and good manners.

So, as May blooms in its complete glory, it's time to head outside and revel in the warmth of the spring sun with your pooch. From fetch to treasure hunts, each day of this merry month can offer delightful bonding and exercise opportunities with your furry friend. And remember, The Hungry Puppy is more than just a store. We are your Personal Pet Consultant, here to help you make the most of every pet-parenting moment. So, here's to May, the start of many fun-filled outdoor adventures!
