Ninety-seven percent beef and organs. That is a higher meat percentage than the dinner patties on the shelf above them, which surprises people who assume the meal must be the richer product.
The Grass-Fed Beef Wild Weenies ingredient list runs to five items: beef, beef liver, beef kidney, sodium alginate, and mixed tocopherols as the preservative. The alginate is the binder, which is what gives them that odd little sausage shape. That is the entire list. No produce, no probiotics, no vitamin and mineral package, because this is a treat and it is built like one.
Forty percent protein, thirty-one percent fat, fourteen kilocalories per treat.
That last number is the one to keep. Stella publishes no daily limit for these anywhere on the page, which is a gap worth naming rather than papering over. Plenty of treat bags say one to two per day. This one says nothing, beyond a generic note that puppies may need more food than adults, which is boilerplate rather than treat guidance. So we are not going to invent a number for you.
What we will do is give you the arithmetic, because fourteen kilocalories per treat makes it easy. Stella's own ceiling for treats and toppers is ten percent of daily calories. A twenty pound dog eating somewhere around five hundred calories a day gets about fifty calories of treat room, which is three or four of these. A seventy pound dog has considerably more. Those are rough numbers and your dog's actual requirement depends on age, size and how much they move, but the method is sound and it beats guessing.
This is also where a lot of training goes sideways. A treat used as a reward gets given dozens of times in a session, and a treat this size adds up faster than a biscuit would. If you are doing real training work, break them. The dog does not count, the dog counts events.
One thing to flag before you go filling a loyalty card with them. Treats are excluded from our freeze-dried Frequent Buyer program. The card covers dinner patties, meal mixers, dinner morsels, Stella's Solutions and dinner dust, and it excludes treats and one ounce trial bags outright. Items are grouped by species and size, the free item comes from the same group and is of equal or lesser value than the least valued item on your card, and you will need a valid email and a current loyalty account with us. We would rather tell you that here than at the register.
Our opinion on single-ingredient and near-single-ingredient treats generally: they are worth the money and most of what sits around them is not. A five item list where three items are meat is doing something a shaped, flavored, colored biscuit is not, and the difference in what you are actually buying is larger than the difference in price.
They come in seven recipes across the line, and the meat percentage runs ninety-five to ninety-seven depending which one you pick up, so do not carry the ninety-seven figure across to the duck or the lamb without checking.
Count what you handed out today. Most people are surprised by the number, and the bag will not tell you.
