Instinct Original Paté Real Salmon Recipe Wet Cat Food

For the fish-loving cat, Instinct's Original Paté Real Salmon Recipe is a grain-free salmon paté made with wild-caught and farm-raised salmon. Instinct describes it as 95% salmon and pork liver, with 5% fruits, vegetables and other ingredients.

What's actually in it

Salmon is the first ingredient and salmon broth the second, so fish is the backbone of this can. Pork liver adds organ meat, and egg product adds a bit more protein. Ground flaxseed and menhaden fish oil supply omega fatty acids, which Instinct includes to support skin and coat.

Peas and carrots are the main vegetables, with small amounts of cranberries, pumpkin, tomato, blueberries, broccoli, kale and parsley at the end. Instinct says it's made without gums, grain, potato, corn, wheat, soy, artificial colors or preservatives.

Who it suits, and who it doesn't

It suits a cat who prefers fish flavors and a family wanting a chicken-free, poultry-free paté. It's a good rotation can next to a poultry recipe.

Ideal feeding amounts depend on age, weight, and activity level. Refrigerate any unused portion.

These amounts are from the 3 oz can's label. With our larger 5.5 oz cans your cat will need fewer cans a day, so check the label on the can in hand.

Treat the label as a starting point. Serve at room temperature, split the day's amount into meals, and always keep fresh water out. If you feed wet alongside kibble, trim both so the day's total doesn't creep up. Check your cat's body condition after two or three weeks... ribs easy to feel under a thin layer, a waist visible from above... and adjust.

Switching over

Change foods gradually over about a week. Start with roughly a quarter Instinct Salmon Paté mixed into the old food, move to half, then three quarters, then all Instinct Salmon Paté. Cats can be particular, so if yours hesitates, slow down rather than skipping ahead. Going slowly gives your cat's stomach time to adjust.

Storage

Instinct's direction is to serve at room temperature and refrigerate any unused portion. Cover the opened can and use it within a few days. Keep unopened cans somewhere cool and dry.
