What is The Hungry Puppy?

The Hungry Puppy is a family-owned, women-owned, independent pet food and farm supply store at 1288 Highway 33 (NJ-33) in Farmingdale, New Jersey. We opened on August 5, 1987 and are now in our second generation of family ownership. We carry dog and cat food, treats and supplies, food for birds and small animals, and horse, livestock and poultry feed, and we deliver it all on our own trucks across Monmouth County and parts of Ocean, Middlesex and Mercer counties.

What are The Hungry Puppy's store hours?

Tuesday through Friday 9am to 7pm, Saturday 9am to 5pm and Sunday 10am to 4pm. We are closed on Mondays. Holiday hours are posted on our website and Google listing.

Is The Hungry Puppy a local, family-owned business?

Yes. Frank and Teresa Frattini founded The Hungry Puppy in 1987, and their niece, Theresa Gibilisco, took over as owner in January 2025, making us a women-owned small business. She has worked at the store since high school. Our original storefront was at 78 Main Street in Farmingdale, and our phone number has not changed since the day we opened.

Can I bring my dog into the store?

Yes. Leashed, friendly dogs are welcome inside The Hungry Puppy. Ask an associate to take your dog's picture before you leave...we feature our visiting pups on our Facebook page every Friday.

Can you help me choose the right food for my pet?

Yes. Our free Personal Pet Consultant service is a 45-minute one-on-one appointment with one of our associates to compare foods, work around sensitivities, or switch from a food you buy elsewhere. Bring your pet along. Call 732-938-4470 or email info@thehungrypuppy.com to schedule.

Does The Hungry Puppy offer dog training classes?

No. The Hungry Puppy does not offer dog training or obedience classes. You're welcome to practice with your own dog in our free dog park anytime it's open.

Does The Hungry Puppy carry everything in the store on its website?

No. The store carries much more than the website, especially frozen and refrigerated food, farm and equine feed, and many brands that are not listed online. If you don't see something on the site, call 732-938-4470 or text 848-482-8171 and ask.

What payment methods do you accept?

In the store we accept cash, debit cards and Visa, Mastercard, Discover and American Express. Online checkout also takes Shop Pay, Apple Pay and Google Pay. We do not accept checks.

Local Delivery

Does The Hungry Puppy deliver pet food?

Yes. We deliver pet food, treats, supplies and farm feed Tuesday through Friday, year-round, to about 90 towns across all of Monmouth County and parts of Ocean, Middlesex and Mercer counties. Our own drivers bring every order in our own trucks...we never use DoorDash or any third-party delivery service.

Is local delivery free?

Yes, on your town's delivery day with a $20 minimum order. The $20 minimum covers pet food, farm feed and supplies. Orders under $20 have an $8 delivery charge. Prescription diets deliver free with no minimum.

What day does The Hungry Puppy deliver to my town?

When do I need to place my delivery order?

By 5pm the evening before your town's delivery day. Order on thehungrypuppy.com, call 732-938-4470, leave a detailed voicemail at extension 102, or email delivery@thehungrypuppy.com. If you miss the cutoff, call or text and ask...a customer service rep or our delivery manager can often still fit you in.

Can I get pet food delivered faster?

Yes. Express Delivery is $9 and we guarantee your order within 24 hours. Choose Express Delivery at checkout.

Can I set up automatic delivery so I never run out?

Yes. With Automatic Delivery you choose the products and how often, and we bring them on schedule. You can add or remove items, skip or reschedule a delivery, or cancel anytime from your account. Auto-delivery also saves 6% on all freeze-dried food.

Do you deliver frozen and raw pet food?

Yes. Frozen and raw food delivers just like the rest of your order...on your town's regular delivery day, free with the same $20 minimum. Someone needs to be home to receive it, or you can leave a cooler out or make other arrangements with us ahead of time...we can't leave frozen products outside on a porch unless arrangements have been made. Do you deliver large items like dog houses?

Yes. Bulky items such as dog houses, hutches and kennels may carry an extra charge depending on size and location. Call 732-938-4470 and we'll tell you before you order.

Can you deliver a donation to an animal shelter for me?

Yes. We regularly deliver donations to local animal shelters on behalf of our customers. Call 732-938-4470 or email delivery@thehungrypuppy.com to arrange it.

Horse, Livestock & Backyard Chicken Feed

Does The Hungry Puppy sell and deliver horse feed?

Yes. We carry horse, livestock and poultry feed, pine shavings and bedding, and we deliver feed to farms and homes Tuesday through Friday on our own trucks. Free feed delivery has the same $20 minimum as pet food, and our drivers can handle heavy 50 lb bags.

Can you deliver a large or bulk feed order?

Yes. Orders of more than 29 bags are bulk orders and are delivered on a Tuesday or Thursday.

Do you deliver pine shavings and bedding?

Yes. Pine shavings have a 50-bale delivery minimum and wood pellet bedding has a 30-bag delivery minimum. The delivered price per bale or bag is higher than the in-store price.

Do you carry backyard chicken feed?

Yes. We carry layer feed, poultry supplies and treats for backyard flocks, all available for pickup or local delivery. Call 732-938-4470 to ask about a specific brand.

Shipping & Online Orders

Does The Hungry Puppy offer free shipping?

Yes. Freeze-dried pet food, including the full Dr. Marty line, ships free anywhere in the lower 48 states on orders over $75. Everything else ships free on orders over $75 to Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont and Washington, DC. Select 40 lb and larger bags are excluded. Details are on our Shipping page.

Do you ship nationwide?

Yes, to the lower 48 states by UPS. We do not ship to Alaska, Hawaii, US territories or outside the United States. Orders ship Tuesday through Friday, and orders placed Friday evening through Sunday ship on Tuesday.

Why did I get two emails for one order?

The first email confirms we received your order. The second comes after we've processed and packed it, and it tells you what happens next: your UPS tracking number if you're shipping, a ready-for-pickup notice if you chose curbside, or your delivery day if you're local. Wait for the second email before you head over.

Why can't I see the price on some products?

Some manufacturers enforce a MAP (Minimum Advertised Price) policy that limits the price a store may display on a web page, but not the price it can charge. On those brands, the price appears once the item is in your cart, with no obligation to buy. You can also call 732-938-4470 and we'll tell you. Our owner explains it in Why Can't I See Prices?

Can I cancel or change my order?

Usually, if we haven't packed it yet. Call 732-938-4470 as soon as possible...a phone call is the fastest way to catch an order before it goes out.

Curbside & After-Hours Pickup

Does The Hungry Puppy offer curbside pickup?

Yes, and it's always free. Order on thehungrypuppy.com and choose curbside pickup. When you get the second email saying your order is ready, come during store hours, drive through the gates at the warehouse and pull up in front of the curbside pickup sign on the left.

Can I pick up my order after the store closes?

Yes, 24/7, as long as you arrange it during regular store hours. Call 732-938-4470, text 848-482-8171 or email info@thehungrypuppy.com, then wait for our confirmation that your order will be left out and how to get it.

Can you hold an item for me?

The easiest way is to order it online for curbside pickup. We'll tag it and set it aside, and you'll get an email when it's ready, or we'll contact you if we're short.

Savings & Rewards

Does The Hungry Puppy have a military or veteran discount?

Yes, every day. Military members and veterans save 15% on treats and supplies, 10% on food and 5% on feed. On the 4th Friday of every month, Military & Veteran Appreciation Day, that goes up to 20%, 15% and 10%. In-store only; bedding is excluded.

Does The Hungry Puppy have a senior discount?

Yes. Senior Discount Day is the 1st Thursday of every month: 20% off treats and supplies, 15% off food and 5% off feed. In-store only; bedding is excluded.

What are your monthly discount days?

Senior Discount Day is the 1st Thursday. Too's Day, named for our little dog Too, is the 2nd Tuesday, with 20% off every toy in the store and no exclusions. On Wheel Wednesday, the 3rd Wednesday, everyone who comes in spins our prize wheel, no purchase needed. Military & Veteran Appreciation Day is the 4th Friday. Caturday falls on any 5th Saturday, with $5 off for anyone who brings their cat in a carrier or on a leash. Discount days are in-store only and can't be combined with store coupons or sale prices, but they can be combined with Astro deals and manufacturer coupons.

How does the frequent buyer program work?

More than 60 brands run frequent buyer programs at The Hungry Puppy, typically buy 10 and get 1 free. You don't save bags, receipts or UPCs...our system tracks every qualifying purchase on your account automatically and tells us when you've earned your free item. How do I join your text list?

Returns

What is The Hungry Puppy's return policy?

Returns are accepted within 14 days with a receipt. Unopened food and treats get a full refund. We guarantee opened food 100%, to the last bit in the bag...if your pet won't eat it, bring it back in the original packaging. Accessories need their tags attached, clearance items are final sale, and any problem with raw or frozen food must be reported within 24 hours. Dog Park, Memorial Park & Events

Does The Hungry Puppy have a dog park?

Yes. The Hungry Puppy Dog Park is free and open to the public, right at the store. It has a double-gated entry, a 5-foot fence and two separate play areas so large and small dogs can be split up, plus dog playground equipment, free water, shade and seating. What is the Rainbow Bridge Pet Memorial Park?

The Hungry Puppy Rainbow Bridge Pet Memorial Park is a quiet space on our property for remembering pets who have passed. It has a rainbow-painted bridge, the St. Francis Grotto, benches and a memorial rock garden. It's free to paint a rock, leave a rock or take a rock, or you can ask our staff to paint one in memory of your pet. Learn more on our Rainbow Bridge page.

What is Friday Night Bites?

Friday Night Bites is our free yappy hour in the dog park, every Friday from 4 to 7pm. The season officially kicks off the Friday after Easter and runs through October. Dogs play off leash and try samples from a different brand sponsor each week, people get free food and drinks (BYOB welcome), and no sign-up is needed. In the off season we host pop-up gatherings and events like our Easter Biscuit Hunt and Pupsgiving...follow our Events page for dates.

Can I have a dog birthday party at The Hungry Puppy?
