Instinct Split Cups Flaked Tuna Entrée Wet Cat Food
Know Before You Buy
- Animal proteins in this recipe: Fish (fish broth, tuna, menhaden fish oil), pork (pork, pork liver, pork plasma), egg product.
- Contains: Fish ... Pork ... Egg ... Peas ... Flaxseed ... Gums (guar, cassia, xanthan) ... Natural flavor (source not stated).
- Does not contain: Chicken, turkey, beef, dairy, grains or potatoes (per the manufacturer's ingredient list).
- A tuna entrée with plenty of pork. Pork, pork liver and pork plasma are the third, fourth and eighth ingredients, so this is not a fish-only food.
- Life stage: Adult maintenance only. Instinct's label says this recipe meets the AAFCO Cat Food Nutrient Profiles for maintenance, so it isn't formulated as a kitten's main food.
Flaked tuna in gravy, grain-free, in Instinct's Split Cup format. Split Cups are Instinct's snap-apart, peel-and-serve portions, so you can serve a fresh meal each time with no half-used can in the fridge.
What's actually in it
Fish broth comes first, as you'd expect with a flaked-in-gravy texture, then tuna. Pork, pork liver and pork plasma add a good share of the protein, and egg product adds a little more. Spinach, carrots and dried ground peas are the main vegetables, and ground flaxseed and menhaden fish oil add omega fatty acids.
Guar gum, cassia gum and xanthan gum thicken the gravy, and a natural flavor is included.
Who it suits, and who it doesn't
It suits a cat who loves fish flavors and flaked textures, and it works well as a fresh topper over kibble.
It isn't right for a cat avoiding pork or egg, and it isn't the one to choose if you're looking for a fish-only recipe. If you're unsure, our Personal Pet Consultant is happy to help ... call 732-938-4470.

AAFCO statement
Instinct® Flaked Real Tuna Entree in Gravy is formulated to meet the nutritional levels established by the AAFCO Cat Food Nutrient Profiles for maintenance.
Calorie content
ME = 794 kcal/kg; 30 kcal/serving (calculated)
Instinct gives calories and feeding amounts per serving. By Instinct's own figures a serving works out to about 1.3 oz, which is one side of the 2.64 oz Split Cup, so each Split Cup is two servings.
Feeding guidelines
Instinct's daily feeding guidelines, as printed on the label:
| Cat | Daily amount |
|---|---|
| Adults | Feed 6 to 7 ½ servings per 6-8 lbs of body weight per day. |
Ideal feeding amounts depend on age, weight, and activity level. Refrigerate any unused portion.
The label gives adult amounts only, and this recipe is formulated for adult maintenance.
Treat the label as a starting point. Serve at room temperature, split the day's amount into meals, and always keep fresh water out. If you feed wet alongside kibble, trim both so the day's total doesn't creep up. Check your cat's body condition after two or three weeks... ribs easy to feel under a thin layer, a waist visible from above... and adjust.
Calories, AAFCO statement and feeding guide transcribed from Instinct's product label as shown on its website. Recipes can change, so the label in hand always governs.
Switching over
Change foods gradually over about a week. Start with roughly a quarter Instinct Split Cups Flaked Tuna mixed into the old food, move to half, then three quarters, then all Instinct Split Cups Flaked Tuna. Cats can be particular, so if yours hesitates, slow down rather than skipping ahead. Going slowly gives your cat's stomach time to adjust.
Sizes, and how long a case lasts
2.64 oz Split Cups, sold as a single cup or a 12-pack. Each Split Cup is two servings, so a 12-pack is 24 servings. At Instinct's 6 to 7 ½ servings a day for a 6 to 8 lb adult cat, a 12-pack lasts roughly 3 to 4 days fed on its own. If you feed it alongside kibble, it will last longer.
Storage
Each split cup is a single portion, so there's usually nothing left over. If there is, Instinct's direction is to refrigerate the unused portion... cover it and use it within a few days. Keep unopened cups somewhere cool and dry.
