Know Before You Buy
- Animal proteins in this recipe: Cage-free chicken (chicken, chicken liver, chicken heart), salmon oil.
- Contains: Chicken ... Fish (salmon oil) ... Pumpkin seeds ... Flaxseed ... Yeast (yeast culture).
- Does not contain: Grain, potato, peas, legumes, egg, beef or pork (per the manufacturer's ingredient list).
- Not fish-free. It's an all-chicken protein list, but salmon oil is in the recipe.

FreshDried Patés Chicken is Instinct's answer to the can. It's cage-free chicken, freeze-dried raw into a light, shelf-stable powder-style food that you mix with water or broth to make a fresh pâté in about a minute. Instinct calls it wet food reimagined... no high-heat canning, less mess, and you choose how thick or soupy to make it.
What's actually in it
Chicken, chicken liver and chicken heart are the first three ingredients, so the protein is all chicken. Pumpkin seeds and ground flaxseed come next, with salmon oil adding omega fatty acids. Carrots, apples, butternut squash, blueberries and spinach make up the produce. Lactic acid is used in raw foods to help with food safety, and yeast culture, vitamins, minerals and taurine complete the recipe. There are no peas, potatoes or grains on the list.
Who it suits, and who it doesn't
It suits a healthy adult cat that likes pâté, families who want a raw option without a freezer, and cats that need a little more water in their day, since you add the liquid yourself.

Calorie content
Calorie content (calculated): ME = 4,782 kcal/kg ... 215 kcal per cup. A cup means a standard 8-fluid-ounce dry measuring cup, filled level, measured before you add water. It measures volume, not 8 ounces by weight, so scoop it rather than weigh it.
Feeding guidelines
Instinct's published daily amounts for adult cats, in cups of dry food per day, with the water or broth to mix in. Instinct's guidance is to mix ⅓ cup water or broth for every 1 cup dry food, adjusting based on your pet's preference.

These are starting points, not prescriptions. Ideal amounts depend on age, weight and activity level. Split the day's amount into meals, mix each one fresh, and pick up anything left after 2 hours. Check your cat's body condition after two or three weeks... ribs easy to feel under a thin layer, a waist visible from above... and adjust. Always keep fresh water out.
Switching over
Instinct's advice for cats new to raw: introduce raw over a period of 5 to 7 days, mixing increasing amounts of raw while decreasing current food. Going slowly gives your cat's stomach time to adjust.
Sizes, and how many cups you get
3 oz and 13 oz bags, which hold roughly 2 and 8 level cups of dry food before you add water. For a 10 lb adult cat eating 1¼ cups a day on maintenance, that's a day or two from the small bag and about 6 days from the large one. Cup counts are worked out from Instinct's published calorie figures and are close estimates.
Storage
Keep the bag sealed tight and somewhere cool and dry between meals. Once you add water or broth, serve it right away and discard any leftovers after 2 hours. Wash hands, bowls and utensils after handling, as you would with any raw meat.
