Instinct Flaked Duck Entrée Wet Cat Food
Know Before You Buy
- Animal proteins in this recipe: Duck (duck broth, duck), chicken (chicken, chicken liver), egg product, menhaden fish oil.
- Contains: Duck ... Chicken ... Egg ... Fish (menhaden fish oil) ... Peas (dried ground peas) ... Flaxseed.
- Does not contain: Grain, potato, corn, wheat, soy, carrageenan, beef, pork or lamb (per the manufacturer's ingredient list).
- Not a chicken-free food. Duck comes first, but chicken and chicken liver are the third and fourth ingredients, so this is not a single-protein duck diet.
- Life stage: Instinct's AAFCO statement covers all life stages, kittens through seniors.
Flaked Duck gives a cat a change of pace from the usual chicken and fish... flaked cuts of duck in a savory gravy, in a 3 oz can. It's grain-free, and Instinct formulates it to be complete and balanced for all life stages.
What's actually in it
Duck broth and duck open the ingredient list, followed by chicken and chicken liver, then egg product. Dried ground peas add plant protein. Spinach, carrots, pumpkin, tomato, broccoli, cranberries, blueberries, kale and parsley round out the recipe, and menhaden fish oil and ground flaxseed bring omega fatty acids. The gravy is thickened with guar, cassia and xanthan gums rather than carrageenan.
Who it suits, and who it doesn't
It suits a healthy cat of any age that enjoys poultry and a flaked, gravy-style texture, and it's a nice way to add variety to a rotation of Instinct flaked cans.
Because chicken is a major ingredient, it isn't a good choice for a cat that needs to avoid chicken, and it also contains egg, fish oil and peas. A cat on a strict novel-protein plan should look elsewhere. If you're unsure, our Personal Pet Consultant is happy to help ... call 732-938-4470.

Calorie content

Feeding guidelines
Instinct's published daily amount for adult cats:
| Adult cat body weight | Daily amount |
|---|---|
| Per 6 to 8 lb of body weight | 2¼ to 2¾ cans per day |
Instinct adds: "Ideal feeding amounts depend on age, weight, and activity level. Refrigerate any unused portion. Your cat should always have access to clean fresh water."
Think of this as a starting point. Kittens, and cats that are pregnant or nursing, usually need more, and if you also feed dry food, cut back the cans to match. Check your cat's body condition after two or three weeks... ribs easy to feel under a thin layer, a waist visible from above... and adjust. Always keep fresh water out.
Switching over
Change foods gradually over about a week. Start with roughly a quarter Flaked Duck Entrée mixed into the old food, move to half, then three quarters, then all Flaked Duck Entrée. Going slowly gives your cat's stomach time to adjust.
Sizes, and how long a case lasts
We carry single 3 oz cans and cases of 24. Following Instinct's guide of 2¼ to 2¾ cans per day for a cat in the 6 to 8 lb range, a case of 24 lasts about 8 to 10 days. Cats eating some dry food alongside will make a case last longer.
Storage
Store unopened cans somewhere cool and dry. Instinct recommends feeding at room temperature and refrigerating any unused portion. Cover the opened can and use it within a few days.
