Know Before You Buy
- Animal proteins in this recipe: Chicken (chicken broth, chicken, chicken liver), egg product, menhaden fish oil.
- Contains: Chicken ... Egg ... Fish (menhaden fish oil) ... Peas (dried ground peas) ... Flaxseed.

Flaked Chicken is the easy-going member of Instinct's flaked line... tender flaked cuts of chicken sitting in a savory gravy, in a small 3 oz can that's sized for one cat and one meal. Instinct makes it grain-free and complete and balanced for all life stages, so it works as a full meal and not just a treat on top.
What's actually in it
Chicken does the heavy lifting here: chicken broth, chicken and chicken liver are the first three ingredients. Egg product follows. Dried ground peas add plant protein, and Instinct folds in spinach, carrots, pumpkin, tomato, broccoli, cranberries, blueberries, kale and parsley. Menhaden fish oil and ground flaxseed supply omega fatty acids, and guar, cassia and xanthan gums are what give the gravy its body. Montmorillonite clay is a natural clay often used as a binder in canned foods. There is no carrageenan in the recipe.
Who it suits, and who it doesn't
It suits most healthy cats, kittens included, that like a chunkier texture with gravy rather than a smooth pâté, and families who want a grain-free can. The small can makes it handy for a single cat, or as one meal of the day alongside dry food.

Feeding guidelines
Instinct's published daily amount for adult cats:

Instinct adds: "Ideal feeding amounts depend on age, weight, and activity level. Refrigerate any unused portion. Your cat should always have access to clean fresh water."
Think of this as a starting point. Kittens, and cats that are pregnant or nursing, usually need more, and if you also feed dry food, cut back the cans to match. Check your cat's body condition after two or three weeks... ribs easy to feel under a thin layer, a waist visible from above... and adjust. Always keep fresh water out.
Switching over
Change foods gradually over about a week. Start with roughly a quarter Flaked Chicken Entrée mixed into the old food, move to half, then three quarters, then all Flaked Chicken Entrée. Going slowly gives your cat's stomach time to adjust.
Sizes, and how long a case lasts
We carry single 3 oz cans and cases of 24. Following Instinct's guide of 2½ to 3 cans per day for a cat in the 6 to 8 lb range, a case of 24 lasts about 8 to 9 days. Cats eating some dry food alongside will make a case last longer.
Storage
Store unopened cans somewhere cool and dry. Instinct recommends feeding at room temperature and refrigerating any unused portion. Cover the opened can and use it within a few days.
