Fromm Nutritionals Sensitive Skin & Stomach Salmon & Oatmeal Dry Dog Food
Know Before You Buy
- Animal proteins in this recipe: Hydrolyzed salmon, menhaden fish meal, pork fat, hydrolyzed whitefish, hydrolyzed pork liver, salmon oil, egg.
- Contains: Fish ... Pork ... Egg ... Grains (whole oats, pearled barley, brown rice) ... Yeast.
- Does not contain: Chicken in any form, beef, dairy, corn, wheat, soy, peas, lentils or potatoes (per the manufacturer's ingredient list).
- Chicken-free, but not a single-protein diet. Fromm formulated this recipe without chicken, and none is listed. Pork fat and pork liver are in it, and so is egg, so it isn't a fish-only food. It is also not a veterinary hydrolyzed diet.
- Life stage: Fromm's AAFCO statement covers all life stages, including growth of large size dogs (70 lb or more as an adult).
Sensitive Skin & Stomach is the Fromm Nutritionals recipe for the dog with an easily upset tummy or an itchy coat. It's a salmon and whole grain kibble made without chicken, using hydrolyzed proteins, omega fatty acids and a fiber blend that Fromm designed to support skin, coat and digestive health. It comes from Fromm Family Foods, the family-owned company in Mequon, Wisconsin, and it's gentle, simple and easy to stay with.
What's actually in it
Hydrolyzed salmon is the first ingredient, followed by menhaden fish meal. Hydrolyzed simply means the protein has been broken down into smaller pieces, which Fromm uses to support easy digestion. Hydrolyzed whitefish and hydrolyzed pork liver are further down, along with pork fat and dried egg product.
The carbohydrates come from whole oats, pearled barley and brown rice. Pumpkin, dried beet pulp, psyllium seed husk, ground miscanthus grass and dried chicory root make up the fiber blend, which Fromm includes to support digestive regularity. Salmon oil and flaxseed add omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, which Fromm includes to support skin and coat, and Fromm guarantees both on the label. A probiotic blend and a touch of fennel round it out. The only preservatives are mixed tocopherols (a natural source of vitamin E) and sorbic acid.
This is a food, not a medicine. If your dog has a diagnosed health condition, please feed this food under your veterinarian's guidance.
Who it suits, and who it doesn't
It suits a dog whose family is moving away from chicken, a dog with a sensitive stomach or dry, itchy skin, and households who want a grain-inclusive food. Because Fromm's AAFCO statement covers all life stages, including large breed growth, it works for puppies and adults alike.
It isn't the right bag for a dog avoiding fish, pork or egg, since all three are in it. If you're unsure, our Personal Pet Consultant is happy to help ... call 732-938-4470.

AAFCO statement
Fromm Family Nutritionals® Sensitive Skin & Stomach Salmon & Whole Oats Recipe Complete Dog Food is formulated to meet the nutritional levels established by the AAFCO Dog Food Nutrient Profiles for All Life Stages, including growth of large size dogs (70 lb. or more as an adult).
Calorie content
3,465 kcal/kg ... 1,575 kcal/lb ... 336 kcal per cup. A cup means a standard 8-fluid-ounce dry measuring cup, filled level. It measures volume, not 8 ounces by weight, so scoop it rather than weigh it.
Feeding guidelines
Fromm's published daily amounts, by your dog's ideal weight. Fromm gives a single column for this recipe. Split the total across two meals.
| Ideal weight | Cups per day |
|---|---|
| 5 lb | ½ cup |
| 10 lb | ⅞ cup |
| 15 lb | 1⅛ cups |
| 20 lb | 1½ cups |
| 25 lb | 1¾ cups |
| 30 lb | 2 cups |
| 35 lb | 2¼ cups |
| 40 lb | 2½ cups |
| 45 lb | 2¾ cups |
| 50 lb | 3 cups |
| 55 lb | 3⅛ cups |

| 65 lb | 3½ cups |
| 70 lb | 3¾ cups |
| 75 lb | 4 cups |
| 80 lb | 4¼ cups |
| 85 lb | 4⅓ cups |
| 90 lb | 4½ cups |
| 95 lb | 4¾ cups |
| 100 lb | 5 cups |
These are starting points, not prescriptions. Fromm notes that puppies, and dogs that are pregnant or nursing, may need two to four times more food, and spayed or neutered dogs may need up to 25% less. Check your dog's body condition after two or three weeks... ribs easy to feel under a thin layer, a waist visible from above... and adjust. Always keep fresh water out.
Switching over
Change foods gradually over about a week. Start with roughly a quarter Sensitive Skin & Stomach mixed into the old food, move to half, then three quarters, then all Sensitive Skin & Stomach. Going slowly gives your dog's stomach time to adjust, which matters even more for a sensitive dog... if things get loose, hold at the current step for a few extra days.
Sizes, and how many cups you get
4 lb, 12 lb and 26 lb bags, which hold roughly 19, 56 and 122 level cups. For a 50 lb dog eating 3 cups a day, that's about a week, just under three weeks, and about six weeks respectively. Cup counts are worked out from Fromm's published calorie figures and are close estimates, since kibble settles as a bag is handled.
Storage
Keep the food in its original bag, rolled down tight, somewhere cool and dry. If you use a bin, put the whole bag inside it rather than pouring the kibble in, so the lot number stays with the food.
