Know Before You Buy
- Animal proteins in this recipe: Chicken (chicken, chicken meal, chicken fat, chicken liver, chicken cartilage), bone broth, salmon meal, salmon oil, egg, egg shell meal, cheese, gelatin, New Zealand green mussels.

Mobility is part of Fromm's Nutritionals line, a small family of recipes built around a specific need. This one is a chicken and whole grain kibble that Fromm designed to support healthy cartilage, bones and connective tissue, with glucosamine, chondroitin and green-lipped mussels built right into the food. It's made by Fromm Family Foods, the family-owned company in Mequon, Wisconsin, and it's a natural fit for active dogs, big dogs and seniors alike.
What's actually in it
Chicken and chicken meal lead the list, followed by whole oats, whole barley, brown rice and bone broth. Chicken meal is chicken with the water cooked out, so it adds concentrated protein by weight. Salmon meal, dried egg product, cheese and chicken liver round out the protein side.
What sets this recipe apart is the joint blend. Fromm includes glucosamine hydrochloride, chondroitin sulfate, New Zealand green mussels, chicken cartilage, egg shell meal, gelatin and bone broth to support healthy cartilage, bones and connective tissue, and they guarantee the glucosamine and chondroitin levels on the label (see below). Salmon oil and flaxseed add omega fatty acids, which Fromm includes to support skin and coat, and turmeric, cranberries and blueberries make small appearances. Fromm also adds a probiotic blend and dried chicory root, which they include to support digestion. The only preservatives are mixed tocopherols (a natural source of vitamin E) and sorbic acid.

Who it suits, and who it doesn't
It suits a dog of any size whose family wants joint-supporting ingredients in the everyday bowl, from a working or sporting dog to a senior who likes a slower pace. Because Fromm's AAFCO statement covers all life stages, including large breed growth, it can also be fed to a growing large breed puppy.

Calorie content
3,538 kcal/kg ... 1,608 kcal/lb ... 389 kcal per cup. A cup means a standard 8-fluid-ounce dry measuring cup, filled level. It measures volume, not 8 ounces by weight, so scoop it rather than weigh it.

These are starting points, not prescriptions. Fromm notes that puppies, and dogs that are pregnant or nursing, may need two to four times more food, and spayed or neutered dogs may need up to 25% less. Check your dog's body condition after two or three weeks... ribs easy to feel under a thin layer, a waist visible from above... and adjust. Always keep fresh water out.
Switching over
Change foods gradually over about a week. Start with roughly a quarter Mobility mixed into the old food, move to half, then three quarters, then all Mobility. Going slowly gives your dog's stomach time to adjust.
Sizes, and how many cups you get
4 lb, 12 lb and 26 lb bags, which hold roughly 17, 50 and 107 level cups. For a 50 lb dog eating 2½ cups a day, that's about a week, about three weeks, and about six weeks respectively. Cup counts are worked out from Fromm's published calorie figures and are close estimates, since kibble settles as a bag is handled.
Storage
Keep the food in its original bag, rolled down tight, somewhere cool and dry. If you use a bin, put the whole bag inside it rather than pouring the kibble in, so the lot number stays with the food.
