Digestive Support Low Fat is the Fromm Nutritionals recipe for adult dogs who do best on a lighter, lower-fat bowl. It pairs hydrolyzed chicken with gentle grains and a fiber blend that Fromm designed to support healthy digestion, with crude fat held between 7% and 9%. That's well under the 16% minimum in Fromm's everyday Gold Adult. It comes from Fromm Family Foods, the family-owned company in Mequon, Wisconsin.
What's actually in it
Hydrolyzed chicken is the first ingredient, followed by chicken meal. Hydrolyzed means the protein has been broken down into smaller pieces, which Fromm uses to support easy digestion. Chicken meal is chicken with the water cooked out, so it adds concentrated protein by weight. Hydrolyzed chicken liver, menhaden fish meal and dried egg product round out the protein side, and chicken fat and salmon oil are kept to a small share, which is how the fat stays low.
The carbohydrates come from oatmeal, pearled barley, white rice and brown rice. Dried beet pulp, pumpkin, ground miscanthus grass, psyllium seed husk and dried chicory root make up the fiber blend, which Fromm includes to support digestive regularity and stool quality. Fromm also adds a probiotic blend and a little fennel. The only preservatives are mixed tocopherols (a natural source of vitamin E) and sorbic acid.
This is a food, not a medicine. If your dog has a diagnosed health condition, please feed this food under your veterinarian's guidance.
Who it suits, and who it doesn't
It suits an adult dog whose family or veterinarian is looking for a lower-fat food, and dogs with sensitive digestion who do well on chicken. Because it is lower in calories than most Fromm recipes, portions look a little larger in the bowl.
It isn't the right bag for a puppy, since Fromm's AAFCO statement covers adult maintenance only, or for a dog avoiding chicken, fish or egg. If you're unsure, our Personal Pet Consultant is happy to help ... call 732-938-4470.

Calorie content
3,326 kcal/kg ... 1,512 kcal/lb ... 329 kcal per cup. A cup means a standard 8-fluid-ounce dry measuring cup, filled level. It measures volume, not 8 ounces by weight, so scoop it rather than weigh it.

These are starting points, not prescriptions. Fromm notes that spayed or neutered dogs may need up to 25% less food. Check your dog's body condition after two or three weeks... ribs easy to feel under a thin layer, a waist visible from above... and adjust. Always keep fresh water out.
Switching over
Change foods gradually over about a week. Start with roughly a quarter Digestive Support Low Fat mixed into the old food, move to half, then three quarters, then all Digestive Support Low Fat. Going slowly gives your dog's stomach time to adjust, which matters even more for a sensitive dog... if things get loose, hold at the current step for a few extra days.
Sizes, and how many cups you get
4 lb, 12 lb and 26 lb bags, which hold roughly 18, 55 and 119 level cups. For a 50 lb dog eating 3 cups a day, that's about six days, about two and a half weeks, and about five and a half weeks respectively. Cup counts are worked out from Fromm's published calorie figures and are close estimates, since kibble settles as a bag is handled.
Storage
Keep the food in its original bag, rolled down tight, somewhere cool and dry. If you use a bin, put the whole bag inside it rather than pouring the kibble in, so the lot number stays with the food.
