Dr. Marty Nature's Blend Essential Wellness Premium Origin Freeze-Dried Raw Dog Food
Premium Origin is the red-meat bag, and it is the only formula in the entire Nature's Blend line with no poultry in it at all. No chicken, no turkey, no duck, no goose, no quail, no egg. For a dog that cannot have poultry, this is the one bag on the shelf, and that is a harder thing to find than most people expect.
It is built on lamb, venison, beef and mackerel, with lamb liver, beef liver and beef heart behind them.
The number to pay attention to
38% protein and 38% fat. This is the only Dr. Marty formula where fat equals protein, and it makes Premium Origin the richest food in the line by some distance.
That is a feature for a hard-working dog, a dog carrying too little weight, or one living outdoors through a Jersey winter. It is a problem for a dog with a pancreatitis history, a dog already carrying extra weight, or any dog a veterinarian has put on a low-fat diet. If you are moving a dog here from a 14% fat kibble, that is not a small change and the ten-day transition is not optional.
What's in it, and what's only in here
Four ingredients appear in this formula and nowhere else in the line: kiwifruit, strawberry, beets and shiitake mushroom. The produce list is genuinely different rather than reshuffled.
Dr. Marty describes the sourcing as New Zealand lamb and venison, grass-fed beef and wild-caught mackerel. That is their claim about where the meat comes from, and we are passing it on as theirs... those words are not part of the ingredient names on the label, which read plainly as lamb, venison, beef and mackerel.
Omega-3 is guaranteed at 0.8%, which is the lowest in the line despite the mackerel. If omega-3 is what you are after, Radiant Select guarantees 3.5%.

4,990 kcal/kg ... 230 kcal per cup. A cup means a standard 8-fluid-ounce dry measuring cup, filled level, holding about 46 grams of this food. It does not hold 8 ounces by weight.

Starting points, not prescriptions. Given the fat content, watch body condition more closely than usual for the first month... ribs findable under a thin covering, a waist visible from above... and cut back if the waist starts disappearing.
How to rehydrate
Warm water at two parts food to one part water, three minutes, then stir through. The food is raw and uncooked, so handle it like raw meat: wash hands and bowl afterwards, and don't leave a made-up portion out.
Switching over
Ten days, and worth being strict about it here. 25% of the new food on days one to three, 50% on four to six, 75% on seven to nine, all of it from day ten.
Sizes, and how many cups you get
16 oz, 48 oz and 80 oz, which come out to roughly 9¾, 29½ and 49 level cups. For a 50 lb dog eating 3 cups a day that is about three days, ten days, and sixteen days.
Storage
Seal it fully after each use, cool and dry. Dr. Marty puts an opened bag at up to three months, shortened by heat and humidity.
