The Hungry Puppy has been a family-owned pet food and supply store since 1987, now in its second generation. Delivery has been at the heart of our business from day one. We run our own trucks with our own people, and we never hand our customers off to a third-party service.

Our drivers are an extension of our family business. For many of our customers, you will be the face of The Hungry Puppy they see most often. You will be welcomed into driveways, barns, garages, and homes, and trusted with gate codes, keys, and beloved pets. We are looking for someone who treats every customer like a neighbor and every delivery like it is going to their own family.

The Job

You will pick, load, and deliver pet food, supplies, and farm feed to homes and farms across Monmouth County and parts of Ocean, Middlesex, and Mercer Counties. Routes run Tuesday through Friday on GPS-optimized routes, in our company box truck or SUV. On light route days, you will lend a hand in the store and warehouse.

What You'll Do

  • Pick and load every order accurately, checking the full load against the invoice before you roll.
  • Drive safely and deliver within the promised time windows, calling ahead when you're running late.
  • Handle product with care: frozen and refrigerated items stay on ice, and feed stays dry.
  • Place product where the customer wants it, close gates behind you, and treat every pet and property with respect.
  • Collect signatures and payments, take proof-of-delivery photos, and turn in paperwork the same day.
  • Complete pre-trip and post-trip inspections and keep the truck clean, fueled, and ready.
  • Share product knowledge, promotions, and events with the customers on your route.
  • Pitch in at the store and warehouse when routes are light.

What You Need

These are mandatory, no exceptions:

  • A valid driver's license held for at least 3 years.
  • A clean driving record: no DUI/DWI, reckless driving, or license suspensions, and no at-fault accidents or major moving violations in the past 3 years.
  • You must be insurable under our commercial auto policy.
  • Pass a background check, a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check, and a pre-employment drug screen, and agree to random drug and alcohol testing.
  • A DOT medical card to operate our box truck.
  • Reliable personal transportation to get to work.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs repeatedly and load and unload home and farm deliveries.
  • Punctual, detail oriented, and professional, with strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Comfortable around dogs, cats, horses, and other animals.
  • CDL NOT REQUIRED

Nice to have:

  • Forklift experience.
  • Box truck or route delivery experience.
  • Knowledge of pet food, pet supplies, or farm and equine feed.
  • Familiarity with Monmouth and Ocean County roads.

Physical Demands

  • Loading and unloading pet food, supplies, and feed at homes and farms, in all kinds of weather.
  • Walking product to the door with a hand truck over steps, gravel, and uneven ground.
  • Standing, driving, and climbing in and out of the truck for extended periods.
