Stella & Chewy's Wild Weenies Grain Free Raw Game Bird Recipe Freeze-Dried Dog Treats
"Game bird" suggests pheasant, grouse, maybe goose. This recipe is turkey-led, with duck and quail in minor positions. Here's the whole list, in Stella's published order.
Six ingredients, and the order tells you a lot
- Cage-Free Turkey
- Turkey Liver
- Sodium Alginate (the binder)
- Cage-Free Duck
- Quail
- Mixed Tocopherols (preservative)
Two things worth catching there.
First, no classic game bird appears at all. No pheasant, no grouse, no guinea fowl, no goose. Quail is the only non-farmed-poultry species and it's fifth. Stella's own first bullet is honest about this... it reads simply raw, cage-free turkey.
Second, both the duck and the quail are listed after the sodium alginate. Ingredients run in descending order by weight, so that means there is more binder in this treat than duck, and more binder than quail. The turkey is doing nearly all the work.
So the practical reading: this is a turkey treat with a little duck and quail in it. If you are avoiding turkey, this is emphatically not the bag, whatever the name suggests. If you were hoping for a truly novel game protein, the quail is there but in a small amount, and we'd rather you knew that before you paid for it.
For a dog that eats poultry happily, it's a good treat and the variety is real. Just buy it for what it is.
Where it sits on richness
38% protein, 37% fat, 15 calories a treat, and at 5,084 kcal/kg it's the most calorie-dense of the seven Wild Weenies recipes.
| Wild Weenies recipe | Protein | Fat | kcal/treat | Species in the list |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chicken | 40% | 26% | 13 | chicken only |
| Beef | 40% | 31% | 14 | beef only |
| Red Meat | 40% | 32% | 14 | beef, goat, lamb |
| Bac'n Me Crazy | 38% | 34% | 14 | pork, beef |
| Lamb | 37% | 36.94% | 15 | lamb only |
| Duck | 38% | 37% | 15 | duck, turkey |
| Game Bird | 38% | 37% | 15 | turkey, duck, quail |
37% fat against 26% for the chicken recipe. If your dog is on a low-fat diet or has a pancreatitis history, ask your vet first, and know the chicken Wild Weenies are the leaner option at 13 calories a treat.
Rich treats are more motivating, which is the honest flip side. For recall work or anything with real distraction, this does more than a lean treat will.
About the sodium alginate
A binder derived from seaweed, present in all seven Wild Weenies recipes. It's what gives these their shape and chew rather than being a crumbly chunk of meat.
Here it happens to be the ingredient that tells you the most, because the duck and quail sit behind it. That's not a criticism of the binder... it's how to read a label.

How many to give
Stella publishes no treat count and no dog-size guidance for Wild Weenies. The general rule is to keep treats to around 10% of daily calories, and the published per-treat figure makes that workable... ten of these is 150 calories, which is most of a small dog's treat allowance for a day. Your vet can tell you your dog's daily number.
Also on the label
Grain free, with no corn, wheat or soy. Stella doesn't print a pea-free, lentil-free or potato-free statement on any Wild Weenies recipe the way they do on their patties... what we can tell you is that none of those three appears anywhere in this six-item list.
Storage and serving
Shelf-stable, no refrigeration needed. Break pieces down for a small dog and give with fresh water nearby. Supervise, as with any treat.
On the label statement
Stella publishes no AAFCO statement for this product, and no "for intermittent or supplemental feeding only" line, which is what you'd normally expect on a treat. Its absence doesn't make it a complete food. Ask us if you want it confirmed off the bag.
