Stella & Chewy's Dandy Lamb Meal Mixers
Lamb, lamb spleen, lamb liver, lamb heart, lamb kidney, lamb bone. Five organ and bone components, which is the most of any Stella & Chewy's recipe we've read, and spleen sits second, ahead of the liver.
Spleen in the number two position
Lamb spleen appears in nothing else in Stella's range. Nor, for that matter, in much else on the shelf.
That's the composition fact, and it's the reason to pick this one if organ content is specifically why you feed raw. Stella puts the recipe at 95% grass-fed lamb, nutrient-rich organs and bone.
For comparison: their chicken recipe runs liver and gizzard, their Super Beef runs liver, kidney, heart and tripe, and their rabbit recipe lists liver alone. This one runs five.
38% protein and 38% fat
Protein and fat are equal here, the only Stella recipe where that's true, and at 5,270 kcal/kg this is among the most calorie-dense things they make.

Rich isn't automatically better. It depends on the dog... a working dog or a hard keeper does well on food like this, and a dog with a pancreatitis history, or one on a vet-prescribed low-fat diet, needs that vet's view first. If you want Stella's leanest topper, it's the chicken.
Because it's dense, a bag goes further than a same-size bag of the chicken. A 100 lb dog eats 4¼ cups of this a day as a full meal against 5 cups of the chicken.
Why people choose lamb
Usually because chicken and beef have already been tried. Lamb is a less common protein in American dog food, so a dog raised on poultry has probably never met it. That's a reasonable thing to discuss with your vet... we're not in a position to tell you it will fix anything.
Worth knowing: this recipe is lamb only. No chicken, beef, fish or egg.
One thing we're not going to smooth over
Stella's published ingredient list for these Meal Mixers includes lamb heart. Their published list for the Dandy Lamb Dinner Patties does not, even though the two share an identical guaranteed analysis and identical calorie content.
We don't know which list is the incomplete one, and we are not going to quietly assume one applies to the other. So we print each product's own published list and leave the difference visible. If it matters for your dog, ask us and we'll read the bag in the shop.
The rest of the recipe
Pumpkin seed, then organic cranberries, spinach, broccoli, beets, carrots, squash and blueberries. Fenugreek seed, kelp, a full vitamin and mineral package including vitamin D3, added taurine.
Pea-free, lentil-free and potato-free, as published for this recipe. Not true of everything Stella makes, so check each item rather than the brand.

Stella publishes two charts. Cups below mean a level standard 8-fluid-ounce dry measuring cup.
As a mixer or topper, on top of your dog's regular food:

Stella notes puppies may need up to twice the adult amount, and to consult a veterinarian for pregnant and nursing dogs. Split the daily amount across two meals and adjust to your dog's body condition after two or three weeks.
If you use it as a daily topper, take those calories off the dinner underneath. At 59 kcal a quarter cup this is the kind of topper that adds up on a small dog.
How to use it
Crumble over the bowl dry, or rehydrate with warm water first, which brings out the smell and often wins over a fussy eater. Stella suggests bone broth as the liquid if you want to go further, and we carry their Bountiful Bone Broth.

Switching over
If you're moving your dog onto this as a full meal, Stella's guidance is to introduce gradually over seven to ten days, mixing with the current food and shifting the ratio. They note sudden diet changes and overfeeding can both cause digestive upset. At 38% fat, take the slow route.

Stella & Chewy's does not publish an AAFCO nutritional adequacy statement or a life stage for this product. If you intend to feed it as your dog's only food rather than as a topper, ask us and we'll read the bag, and talk to your vet.
