Stella & Chewy's Raw Coated Kibble Wild-Caught Whitefish Recipe Dry Dog Food
The only Stella kibble with no land animal in it at all. For a dog that has worked through chicken, beef and lamb without success, that is the reason this bag exists.
Four fish species, no meat
Whitefish, ocean whitefish meal, mackerel, salmon and cod, plus salmon oil and cod liver oil. We read the entire list and there is no poultry, no beef, no lamb, no pork, no egg and no dairy anywhere in it.
That makes it genuinely useful for an elimination diet in a way most "limited ingredient" kibbles aren't... but be clear about what it is. This is not a single-protein food. It's four fish species. If your vet has you isolating one specific fish, this won't do that job. If the goal is simply to get off land animals, it does it completely.
Highest protein, fewest calories per cup
35% protein and 430 calories a cup. Both are the extremes of the seven-recipe line:
| Raw Coated recipe | Protein | Fat | kcal/cup |
|---|---|---|---|
| Whitefish | 35% | 13.5% | 430 |
| Duck | 34% | 13% | 445 |
| Chicken (adult) | 33% | 14% | 435 |
| Beef | 32% | 15% | 434 |
| Lamb | 30% | 16% | 438 |
Five points more protein than the lamb recipe and fifteen fewer calories a cup than the duck. If you have a dog that needs protein without the calories, this combination is the best in the line, and nothing on the front of the bag tells you that.
The joint figures run the other way: glucosamine 1,000 mg/kg and chondroitin 800, the lowest of the seven. Stella prints the bullet industry leading levels of glucosamine & chondroitin on every recipe including this one, which runs 40% less chondroitin than their Small Breed Chicken at 1,350. Worth knowing if joint support is why you're buying.
Two legume fractions
Peas at three, lentils at four, and no chickpeas or pea protein. That's the lighter end for this line... Stella's beef recipe carries four separate legume fractions in its top seven.
Their bullet says low carbohydrate diet (only 28% carbs), printed identically across all seven recipes, with no carbohydrate figure in the guaranteed analysis to support it. Their claim, not ours. Stella does add taurine and guarantee it at 0.2% minimum.
Two things about Stella's published list
The published ingredient list does not include vitamin D3, which appears in all six of their other Raw Coated recipes. The list runs straight from vitamin A to vitamin B12.
We are not telling you this food lacks vitamin D, and you shouldn't conclude that either. We have a clear precedent: Stella's published Tantalizing Turkey list dropped a zinc line that the actual bag panel does carry. Website lists on this brand have been incomplete before.
What we can do is tell you what we found and offer to check. Ask us and we'll read the real panel off the bag in the shop.
Second: the "added probiotics" bullet has no number behind it. The four fermentation products are in the list, but unlike Stella's Grass-Fed Lamb kibble this recipe publishes no total microorganisms guarantee.
One gap we're not going to paper over
There is no AAFCO nutritional adequacy statement and no named life stage. On a complete dry food that's the most important line on the label. We checked twice. Ask us and we'll read it off the bag, especially for a puppy or a pregnant dog.

Feeding guidelines, adult dogs
Cups per day, split across two meals. Stella does not state what size cup their chart is based on; the standard for dry food is a level 8-fluid-ounce dry measuring cup.
| Your dog's weight | Cups per day |
|---|---|
| 2-8 lb | ¼ - ¾ |
| 8-15 lb | ¾ - 1 |
| 15-30 lb | 1 - 1¾ |
| 30-40 lb | 1¾ - 2¼ |
| 40-50 lb | 2¼ - 2¾ |
| 50-60 lb | 2¾ - 3 |
| 60-70 lb | 3 - 3½ |
| 70-80 lb | 3½ - 3¾ |
| 80-90 lb | 3¾ - 4 |
| 90-100 lb | 4 - 4½ |
| Over 100 lb | 4½, plus ½ cup per additional 10 lb |
Feeding guidelines, puppies
| Puppy's weight | Cups per day |
|---|---|
| 1-5 lb | ½ - 1 |
| 6-10 lb | 1 - 2 |
| 11-20 lb | 2 - 3 |
| 21-40 lb | 3 - 4 |
| 41-60 lb | 4 - 6 |
Stella adds that puppies may need up to twice the amount listed for an adult. Since Stella publishes no life stage for this food, please ask us to check the bag before feeding it to a puppy.
Every chart is a starting point. Check your dog's body condition after two or three weeks and adjust.
Switching over
Stella's guidance: introduce gradually over seven to ten days, mixing with the current food and shifting the ratio. Sudden diet changes, overfeeding included, can cause digestive upset.
