Cats in July: Finding Cool Spots, Sunbeam Overload & Window Watching

All Posts

If your cat is rotating between sunbeams and AC vents like they’re managing their own temperature schedule, they are officially in July mode. Cats treat summer like a spa retreat mixed with a nature documentary — lots of lounging, lots of window watching, and lots of dramatic complaining when the weather doesn't match their expectations.

Watch their sunbeam strategy. Cats love warm patches but overheat faster than people think. Move beds near breezy windows or shaded areas. Provide elevated perches so they can supervise the world (and your productivity) without overheating. If you need a sturdy window perch that won’t sag mid-sunbath, The Hungry Puppy carries reliable options.

Hydration matters. Cats are naturally low-drinkers, and summer doesn’t magically fix that. Wide bowls, fountains, and wet food boosts keep them hydrated. Place water near their favorite resting spots — convenience matters more than you’d expect.

Bug watching is prime entertainment. Birds, squirrels, insects — all very exciting. Just make sure window screens are secure. One dramatic pounce can turn into a fall if screens are loose or aging.

Expect mood swings. Cats may get feistier at dusk when temperatures drop or lethargic during hot afternoons. Both are normal July behaviors.

Summer is a cat’s playground — customize their environment to keep it comfortable and safe, and they’ll enjoy the season on their terms.
