Stella & Chewy's Tantalizing Turkey Freeze-Dried Raw Dinner Patties
Turkey with ground bone, turkey liver, turkey gizzard. That is exactly how Stella builds their chicken recipe too, protein for protein... and yet the two foods are not close to each other on the numbers.
Same construction, different bird, different food
Both recipes are muscle meat with ground bone, then liver, then gizzard, then an identical supporting list in the same order. If you were going by the ingredient panel alone you'd call them interchangeable.
| Protein | Fat | kcal/kg | kcal/patty | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chewy's Chicken | 48% | 28% | 4,420 | 60 |
| Tantalizing Turkey | 40% | 36% | 5,100 | 58 |
Eight points less protein, eight points more fat, and 15% more calories per kilogram. The practical version, straight from Stella's own two charts: a 40 lb dog eats 12 chicken patties a day, or 10½ turkey ones.
So if you've been feeding the chicken and you switch to this bag, keep counting out twelve patties and you have just increased your dog's intake by roughly 14%. That is the single most useful thing on this page and no label tells you.
It also means a same-size bag of turkey lasts a little longer than a bag of chicken for the same dog. Worth factoring in before you compare prices by the bag.
Who the richer food suits
36% fat puts this in the upper half of Stella's patty line. That works well for an active dog, a hard keeper, or a dog you're trying to put weight back on.
A dog with a pancreatitis history, or one on a vet-prescribed low-fat diet, needs that vet's view before this goes in the bowl. If you want Stella's leanest, that's the chicken.
The one bag we've actually read
Stella's website leaves two things off most of these product pages: the probiotic count, and in a few cases a mineral line. We've had this bag in hand, so for this product we can tell you what the panel says.
The bag carries a guarantee of not less than 20,000,000 CFU per pound of total microorganisms, from Pediococcus acidilactici, Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bifidobacterium longum and Bacillus coagulans, and states it contains a source of live, viable, naturally occurring microorganisms.
Stella's own bag footnotes that figure, and we'll pass the footnote on rather than just the impressive number: total microorganisms are not recognized as an essential nutrient by the AAFCO Dog Food Nutrient Profiles. It is a real, measured, guaranteed number, and it is not a claim about what it will do for your dog.
The second thing we found reading the bag: Stella's website ingredient list for this product is missing a line. It omits zinc proteinate, which the actual packaging panel does include. The bag is authoritative, so this recipe contains zinc like the others, and the website is simply incomplete. We mention it because it's a good reason to be careful about drawing conclusions from what a manufacturer's website leaves out.
The rest of the recipe
Stella puts it at 95% cage-free turkey, nutrient-rich organs and bone, raw. The bag front reads 95% turkey, bone and organ.
Then pumpkin seed, organic cranberries, spinach, broccoli, beets, carrots, squash and blueberries. Fenugreek seed, kelp, a full vitamin and mineral package, added taurine.
The recipe is pea-free, lentil-free and potato-free, as published for this product. Not true of everything Stella & Chewy's makes, so check each item rather than the brand name.
And unlike their Duck Duck Goose patties, which list turkey second despite the name, this one is turkey all the way down. No chicken, no other poultry. If you're avoiding chicken specifically, this is the Stella patty to look at.
If you also buy the Meal Mixers
Tantalizing Turkey Meal Mixers carry the same guaranteed analysis as these patties in every value, and the same 5,100 kcal/kg. Same recipe, two formats. The difference is the feeding chart and how you use it, not the food.

Feeding guidelines
Stella's published amounts for adult dogs, patties per day, split across two meals.
| Your dog's weight | Patties per day |
|---|---|
| 5 lb | 2 |
| 10 lb | 3½ |
| 15 lb | 5 |
| 20 lb | 6 |
| 40 lb | 10½ |
| 60 lb | 14 |
| 80 lb | 17½ |
| 100 lb | 20½ |
Stella notes puppies may need up to twice the adult amount, and to consult a veterinarian for pregnant and nursing dogs. A chart is a starting point... check your dog's body condition after two or three weeks and adjust.
How to serve it
Straight from the bag or rehydrated with warm water. Stella suggests bone broth as the liquid if you want to go further, and we stock their Bountiful Bone Broth.
Shelf-stable, no refrigeration needed.
Switching over
Stella's guidance is to introduce gradually over seven to ten days, mixing with the current food and shifting the ratio. They note that sudden diet changes and overfeeding can both cause digestive issues. Particularly relevant if you're coming off the chicken recipe, since this is the richer food.
On the label statement
Stella describes this as a 100% complete and balanced diet. They do not publish the formal AAFCO nutritional adequacy statement or the life stage on their website, so we can't tell you from here which life stage it is approved for. Ask us and we'll read it off the bag.
