Stella & Chewy's Gourmet Stew, Chicken, Carrot & Broccoli Recipe — Case of 12
Shredded chicken and chicken liver in a slow-cooked broth with organic carrots and broccoli. Of the three Gourmet stews, this is the richest and the cleanest on species.
Chicken all the way through, with one exception
Cage-free chicken, chicken broth, water, dried egg, organic carrots, organic broccoli, tapioca, chicken liver. The chicken and the chicken liver are both chicken, which sounds obvious until you read Stella's duck stew, where the liver is chicken too on a duck-named product.
The exception: salmon oil, well down the list. If you're avoiding fish entirely, Stella's Chicken & Chicken Liver Pâté is the only Gourmet recipe with none at all.
And across the whole line: dried egg is the fourth ingredient, in all six recipes. If your dog reacts to egg, the Gourmet line is out.
It's the only Gourmet recipe with no added salt
We read all six lists. The other two stews and all three pâtés list salt. This one doesn't.
We're reporting it as a composition fact rather than making a claim about it. If sodium is something your vet has asked you to watch, it's worth knowing and worth mentioning to them.

13% more calories per can than the Beef stew, which means fewer cans for the same dog. A 45 lb dog takes 2⅓ to 2¾ cans of this a day against 2¾ to 3¼ of the beef.
Pâté and Stew are different foods, not just textures
- Stews are 81% moisture, pâtés are 78%
- Pâtés run 20 to 37% more calories per kilogram
- Stews contain vegetables, thyme, rosemary and guar gum. Pâtés contain none of those
- Pâtés add sodium phosphate and celery powder
If you want vegetables and herbs in the bowl, the stews have them. If you want calorie density in a smaller volume, the pâtés win.
8.5% protein is not what it looks like
This is 81% moisture. Take the water out and the 8.5% protein becomes roughly 45% on a dry-matter basis, above most kibble. Wet foods always read low against dry food because of the water.
A typo on Stella's own page
Their bullet for this recipe reads #1 ingredient free-free chicken. They mean cage-free, which is what the ingredient list says. Harmless, but we noticed it while checking and we'd rather you know we're actually reading these pages.

Stella adds that puppies may need up to twice the adult amount. Their label offers it as a complete meal or a topper for adult dogs... used as a topper, use a fraction of the chart and take the calories off the food underneath.

Refrigerate after opening and use within a few days. Easy-open lid, no can opener needed.
