The lowest-calorie treat in the range, and a novel protein
At 96 calories an ounce this is the lightest of Stella's six single-ingredient treats, and at 5% fat it's tied for the leanest among the organ and heart cuts.

Add the novel protein and you get the specific reason people buy this one: a high-value liver treat for a dog that can't have chicken or beef. Lamb is uncommon in American dog food, so a dog raised on poultry has probably never been exposed to it, and Stella's beef liver treats are off the table for a dog avoiding beef.
Why liver works so well as a reward
It smells strongly, tastes intense, and breaks into very small pieces without crumbling to dust. For recall work, nail trims or the vet's waiting room, that combination beats a better-behaved treat every time.
Liver is true offal, so give it in small amounts
The honest caveat, and we'd rather you hear it from us. Liver is a far more concentrated food than muscle meat, and it has always been fed to dogs in small quantities rather than by the handful. That's not a knock on the product, it's simply what liver is.
Practically: break pieces small, use it as the high-value reward rather than the everyday biscuit, and if you want a number for your particular dog, ask your vet. If you need something you can hand out more freely, Stella's lamb heart treats are the muscle cut from the same animal... same novel protein, not offal.
Genuinely one ingredient, which is rarer than it sounds
"Single ingredient" and "single protein" get printed on plenty of bags that don't survive a read of the back. Stella's own Cage-Free Duck Wild Weenies list turkey liver second. Their Itty Bitty Beef Lil' Bites end on salmon oil. Their Just Jerky Bites Salmon carries seven ingredients.
This one holds up completely, which is exactly what you need if you're running an elimination diet with your vet.
How many to give
Stella publishes no treat-count guidance for this product, and no AAFCO statement.
So, ours, plainly: a single organ is not a balanced diet, and liver least of all. These are treats. The usual rule of thumb is to keep treats to around 10% of daily calories and let a complete food do the other 90%... your vet can tell you what that works out to for your dog, and with liver it's a question worth actually asking.

Stella publishes no AAFCO statement for this product, and no "for intermittent or supplemental feeding only" line, which is what you'd normally expect on a treat.
