This is the rich one, by a wide margin

11% fat and 119 calories an ounce. Both are the highest of the six single-ingredient treats Stella makes, and the fat figure isn't close:

Nearly four times the fat of Stella's chicken breast treats, from the same bird. If your dog is on a low-fat diet, has a pancreatitis history, or is losing weight on purpose, this is the one in the range to ask your vet about before buying, and the chicken breast is the one that fits that job.

For everyone else, high fat is why dogs find it worth working for. If you need a treat that cuts through distraction at the park, a richer one does that better than a lean one. Just count it... at 119 calories an ounce a handful is not nothing.

Heart is muscle, not offal

Worth knowing if you've been avoiding organ treats because your dog doesn't tolerate liver. Heart is a working muscle, closer in makeup to meat than to liver or kidney, and it tends to sit differently with a dog than true offal does. Stella's liver treats are the organ ones; this and the beef and lamb hearts are not.

Genuinely one ingredient, which is rarer than it sounds

"Single ingredient" gets printed on plenty of bags that don't survive a read of the back. Stella's own Cage-Free Duck Wild Weenies list turkey liver second. Their Itty Bitty Beef Lil' Bites end on salmon oil. Their Just Jerky Bites Salmon carries seven ingredients.

This one holds up completely. For an elimination diet, or any case where you need to know exactly what went in, that's the whole value of the product.

Stella publishes no treat-count guidance for this product, and no AAFCO statement.

So, ours, plainly: a single muscle is not a balanced diet. Chicken heart on its own is missing most of what a dog needs over time, which is exactly what one ingredient means. These are treats. The usual rule of thumb is to keep treats to around 10% of daily calories and let a complete food do the other 90%... your vet can tell you what that works out to for your dog. Given this is the richest of the six, it's the one where that matters most.

Shelf-stable, no refrigeration needed. Break pieces down for a small dog and give with fresh water nearby. Supervise, as with any treat.

On the label statement

Stella publishes no AAFCO statement for this product, and no "for intermittent or supplemental feeding only" line, which is what you'd normally expect on a treat.
