Stella & Chewy's Freeze-Dried Raw Beef Heart Dog Treats
Ingredient list, in full: beef heart. We read Stella's published list and there is nothing else in it... no preservative, no binder, no glycerin, no salt.
67% protein at 7% fat, and the lowest calorie count of the hearts
Among Stella's six single-ingredient treats, beef heart is second only to chicken breast on protein, and it carries the fewest calories per ounce of any of them, at 99.
| Single-ingredient treat | Protein | Fat | kcal per oz |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chicken Breast | 74% | 3% | 105 |
| Beef Heart | 67% | 7% | 99 |
| Beef Liver | 64% | 5% | 102 |
| Lamb Heart | 64% | 6% | 102 |
| Chicken Heart | 63% | 11% | 119 |
| Lamb Liver | 60% | 5% | 96 |
Note the contrast within the hearts: 7% fat here against 11% for Stella's chicken hearts. Same cut, different animal, meaningfully different food. If fat is something you're watching, beef heart is the better of the two by a clear margin.
Heart is muscle, not offal
This is the part worth knowing if you've steered away from organ treats because liver doesn't agree with your dog.
Heart is a working muscle, closer in makeup to meat than to liver or kidney. Stella's liver treats are the true organ ones. This is a muscle treat that happens to come from an unusual cut, which is exactly why it reads as high-value to a dog without being rich the way liver is.
Genuinely one ingredient, which is rarer than it sounds
"Single ingredient" and "single protein" get printed on plenty of bags that don't survive a read of the back. Stella's own Cage-Free Duck Wild Weenies list turkey liver second. Their Itty Bitty Beef Lil' Bites end on salmon oil. Their Just Jerky Bites Salmon carries seven ingredients.
This one holds up completely. For an elimination diet, or any case where you need to know exactly what went in, that's the whole value.
How many to give
Stella publishes no treat-count guidance for this product, and no AAFCO statement.
So, ours, plainly: a single muscle is not a balanced diet. Beef heart on its own is missing most of what a dog needs over time, which is what one ingredient means. These are treats. The usual rule of thumb is to keep treats to around 10% of daily calories and let a complete food do the other 90%... your vet can tell you what that works out to for your dog.

Storage and serving
Shelf-stable, no refrigeration needed. Break pieces down for a small dog and give with fresh water nearby. Supervise, as with any treat.
On the label statement
Stella publishes no AAFCO statement for this product, and no "for intermittent or supplemental feeding only" line, which is what you'd normally expect on a treat. Its absence doesn't make this a complete food... a one-ingredient treat plainly isn't one. We mention it because we read the labels. Ask us if you want it confirmed off the bag.
