Before anything else, the thing you most need to know about this bag: turkey is the second ingredient, and there is more turkey in the list than goose.

Read the list, not the name

Here are the first six ingredients, in Stella's published order:

1. Duck with Ground Bone
2. Turkey
3. Turkey Liver
4. Turkey Heart
5. Goose
6. Turkey Gizzard

Four of the top six are turkey. Goose sits fifth, behind three turkey components. Stella's own description reflects this honestly if you read closely... their bullet says 95% poultry, nutrient-rich organs and bone, not 95% duck and goose.

We're putting this at the top of the page rather than burying it in the ingredient panel because of who tends to reach for this bag. If you are avoiding turkey, this is not the right food, whatever the name on the front suggests. If your dog reacted to a turkey recipe and you picked this one up to get away from it, stop here and talk to us... Dandy Lamb or Absolutely Rabbit are single-protein recipes and are what that job actually calls for.

For a dog that eats poultry without trouble, none of this is a problem. A three-bird recipe is simply a varied one, and it's a fine food. Just buy it knowing what's in it.

It is the richest patty Stella makes

38% protein, 38% fat, and 5,370 kcal/kg, the highest calorie density in the entire freeze-dried patty line.

Note that it shares Dandy Lamb's 38/38 split and still carries 100 more kcal per kilogram, which is a good reminder that the guaranteed analysis alone doesn't tell you calorie density.

Practically, that's why its feeding chart is the shortest in the line. A 100 lb dog eats 19½ of these patties a day against 21 of the chicken ones. Richer food, fewer patties, and a bag of this one lasts longer than a same-size bag of chicken at the same dog's requirement. Worth doing the math on before you compare bag prices.

Being the richest in the line also means it's the one to be most careful with. A dog with a pancreatitis history, or on a vet-prescribed low-fat diet, needs that vet's view first.

Two more things in this list that aren't in the others

This recipe lists salt, which doesn't appear in Stella's chicken, beef, lamb or rabbit patty lists. And it lists Tocopherols as the preservative where the others say Mixed Tocopherols.

Neither is a problem... we mention them because we read these lists line by line and we'd rather tell you what we found than smooth it over.

The rest of the recipe

Pumpkin seed, then organic cranberries, spinach, broccoli, beets, carrots, squash and blueberries. Fenugreek seed, kelp, a full vitamin and mineral package, added taurine.

The recipe is pea-free, lentil-free and potato-free, as published for this product. That is not true of everything Stella & Chewy's makes, so check each item rather than the brand.

The probiotics, named

Four fermentation products in the list: Pediococcus acidilactici, Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bifidobacterium longum and Bacillus coagulans. Stella does not publish a CFU count for this product, so we can't give you one.

Feeding guidelines

Stella's published amounts for adult dogs, patties per day, split across two meals.

Stella notes puppies may need up to twice the adult amount, and to consult a veterinarian for pregnant and nursing dogs. A chart is a starting point... check your dog's body condition after two or three weeks and adjust.

How to serve it

Straight from the bag or rehydrated with warm water. Stella suggests bone broth as the liquid if you want to go further, and we stock their Bountiful Bone Broth.

Shelf-stable, no refrigeration. That is the practical difference from Stella's frozen Duck Duck Goose patties, which are local pickup and delivery only... this bag ships.

Switching over

Stella's guidance is to introduce gradually over seven to ten days, mixing with the current food and shifting the ratio. They note that sudden diet changes and overfeeding can both cause digestive issues. Given this is the richest recipe in the line, take the slow route.
