Stella & Chewy's Chewy's Chicken Freeze-Dried Raw Dinner Patties
Of all the freeze-dried patty recipes Stella makes, this is the leanest one. 48% protein against 28% fat. That single fact decides whether it's the right bag for your dog, and almost nobody mentions it.
Where it sits in the line
Shoppers tend to treat Stella's patty flavors as interchangeable, picking by what the dog likes. The numbers say otherwise:
| Recipe | Protein | Fat | kcal/kg |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chewy's Chicken | 48% | 28% | 4,420 |
| Absolutely Rabbit | 46% | 32% | 4,780 |
| Stella's Super Beef | 41% | 35% | 4,940 |
| Tantalizing Turkey | 40% | 36% | 5,100 |
| Dandy Lamb | 38% | 38% | 5,270 |
Chicken to lamb is a 19% jump in calorie density, across products a shopper picks between as if they were just flavors. Protein and fat run in opposite directions almost perfectly down that list.
The practical version: by Stella's own charts a 40 lb dog eats 12 chicken patties a day but only 10½ turkey ones. Same bag size, same looking patty, different food. If you switch flavors and keep counting out the same number of patties, you have quietly changed how much your dog is eating.
So who is the chicken for
The leanest recipe in the line suits a dog that doesn't need the extra fat... an easy keeper, a dog carrying a few pounds it doesn't need, a less active or older dog, or any dog whose vet has asked you to watch fat intake. It's also the most protein-dense of the five, so it isn't lean in the sense of being thin food.
For a hard keeper or a dog that burns through calories, one of the richer recipes does more work per patty.
What's in it
Chicken with ground bone, chicken liver, chicken gizzard. Stella puts it at 95% cage-free chicken, nutrient-rich organs and bone, raw.
The organ group here is liver and gizzard, which is a genuine difference from the beef recipe's five-part organ list. Not better or worse... just a different food, and worth knowing if the organ content is why you buy raw.
Then pumpkin seed, organic cranberries, spinach, broccoli, beets, carrots, squash and blueberries. Fenugreek seed, kelp, a full vitamin and mineral package, added taurine.
This recipe is pea-free, lentil-free and potato-free. If you've been steering around those, read that carefully... it's true of this recipe, and it is not true of every Stella & Chewy's product.
The probiotics, named
Four fermentation products appear in the ingredient list: Pediococcus acidilactici, Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bifidobacterium longum and Bacillus coagulans. We name them because the organisms are checkable and the phrase "contains probiotics" isn't.
If you also buy the Meal Mixers
Chewy's Chicken Meal Mixers carry the same ingredient list in the same order and the same guaranteed analysis in every value as these patties. Calorie density is within 20 kcal/kg of each other.
They are the same recipe in two shapes. The real difference is the feeding chart and how you use it, not the food. Nobody needs both bags for nutritional reasons... pick the format that fits how you feed.

Feeding guidelines
Stella's published amounts for adult dogs, patties per day, split across two meals.
| Your dog's weight | Patties per day |
|---|---|
| 5 lb | 2½ |
| 10 lb | 4 |
| 15 lb | 6 |
| 20 lb | 7 |
| 40 lb | 12 |
| 60 lb | 14½ |
| 80 lb | 18 |
| 100 lb | 21 |
Stella notes puppies may need up to twice the adult amount, and to consult a veterinarian for pregnant and nursing dogs. Treat the chart as a starting point, check body condition after two or three weeks, and adjust.
How to serve it
Straight from the bag, or rehydrated with warm water. Stella suggests bone broth as the liquid if you want to go further, and we carry their Bountiful Bone Broth.
Shelf-stable, no refrigeration needed. That's the practical advantage over Stella's frozen Chewy's Chicken patties, which are local pickup and delivery only... this bag ships.
Switching over
Stella's guidance: introduce gradually across seven to ten days, mixing with the current food and shifting the ratio. They note that sudden diet changes, overfeeding included, can cause digestive upset.
On the label statement
Stella describes this as a 100% complete and balanced diet. They don't publish the formal AAFCO nutritional adequacy statement or the life stage on their website, so we can't tell you from here which life stage it's approved for, and we won't present it as a puppy food on that basis. If it matters for your dog, ask us and we'll read it off the bag in the shop.
