Stella & Chewy's Carnivore Cravings Morsels'N'Gravy Chicken & Chicken Liver Recipe Wet Cat Food
Know Before You Buy
- Animal proteins in this recipe: Chicken (chicken, chicken broth, chicken liver), dried egg.
- Contains: Chicken ... Egg ... Guar gum.
- Does not contain: Carrageenan, grains, legumes, potatoes, wheat, meat by-products, soy, artificial colors, preservatives or flavors (per the manufacturer).
- Taurine is guaranteed at 0.15% minimum, which is three times the guarantee on Stella's canned cat food. That is the single biggest practical difference between their pouches and their cans.
- Four different products share this flavor name. Chicken & Chicken Liver exists as a Savory Shreds can, a Purrfect Pâté can, a Shreds pouch and this one. They are genuinely different recipes. Check the format, not just the flavor.
- Life stage: Stella publishes no AAFCO statement for this product, so we can't tell you from here which life stage it's approved for. They do publish a kitten feeding chart alongside the adult one.
Shredded chicken and chicken liver in a light gravy, in a single-serve 2.8 oz pouch. This is the newest of Stella's four wet cat formats and, judged by where it actually sits on their own website, the one with the most life left in it.
What's actually in it
Chicken, chicken broth, water sufficient for processing, dried egg, chicken liver. That's the protein side... real shredded chicken rather than a pâté paste, with liver for palatability and dried egg carrying additional protein.
Then sunflower oil, tapioca, tricalcium phosphate, natural flavor and taurine, which sits high in the list at tenth position. Guar gum is the thickener that holds the gravy. After that it's a full vitamin and mineral package.
One small oddity worth knowing: this is the only recipe in the Morsels'N'Gravy line that lists "water sufficient for processing" as a named ingredient. Its four siblings don't. We don't read anything into it... it's a labeling convention rather than a difference you'd notice in the bowl.
The taurine point, and why format matters more than flavor here
Taurine is not optional for a cat. They can't make enough of it themselves, and a diet short of it causes real harm over time. So the guarantee on the label is worth reading.
| Stella's wet cat formats | Taurine (min) |
|---|---|
| Morsels'N'Gravy pouches | 0.15% |
| Shreds pouches | 0.15% |
| Savory Shreds cans | 0.05% |
| Purrfect Pâté cans | 0.05% |
Every pouch Stella makes guarantees three times the taurine of every can. All four are above the minimum a cat needs, so this is not a safety gap in the cans... but if you are choosing between them and the price is close, the pouch is the better-specified food.
This also means the flavor name on the front tells you very little. Chicken & Chicken Liver exists in all four of Stella's formats, and across those four the protein runs 8% to 10%, the fat 1.5% to 5%, and the calories 706 to 1,264 per kilo. Same two words on the label, meaningfully different food. Ask us if you want help telling them apart.
Who it suits, and who it doesn't
It suits a cat who prefers shreds in gravy to a smooth pâté, and anyone feeding single-serve portions so nothing sits in the fridge. At 94 calories a pouch it's the richest of Stella's wet cat formats, so you feed fewer pouches than you would of the thinner canned recipes.
It isn't right for a cat avoiding chicken or egg, since both are in it. If your cat eats around gravy and leaves the meat, or the reverse, a pâté texture usually solves that.

Feeding guidelines
Stella's published amounts for adult cats, per day. Split across two or more meals.
| Your cat's weight | Pouches per day |
|---|---|
| 1 - 2 lb | ½ - 1 |
| 3 - 4 lb | 1¼ - 1½ |
| 5 - 6 lb | 1¾ - 2 |
| 7 - 8 lb | 2¼ - 2½ |
| 9 - 10 lb | 2¾ - 3 |
| 11 - 12 lb | 3 - 3¼ |
| 13 - 14 lb | 3¼ - 3½ |
| 15 - 16 lb | 3¾ - 4 |
| Over 16 lb | 4, plus ¼ for every additional 2 lb |
And for kittens, which Stella publishes separately:
| Kitten's weight | Pouches per day |
|---|---|
| 1 - 2 lb | 1¼ - 2 |
| 3 - 4 lb | 2½ - 3¼ |
| 5 - 6 lb | 3¾ - 4¼ |
| 7 - 8 lb | 4½ - 5 |
| 9 - 10 lb | 5½ - 5¾ |
| 11 - 12 lb | 6¼ - 6¾ |
| 13 - 14 lb | 7 - 7¼ |
| 15 - 16 lb | 7¾ - 8 |
| Over 16 lb | 8, plus ½ for every additional 2 lb |
One honest note on Stella's own numbers. The paragraph above their chart says to feed 2 to 3 pouches per 6 to 8 lb of body weight, but the chart itself gives 1¾ to 2 pouches at 5 to 6 lb and 2¼ to 2½ at 7 to 8 lb. The two disagree, and the same mismatch appears on all five Morsels'N'Gravy flavors. We follow the chart, because it's the more specific of the two.
Every chart is a starting point. Check your cat's body condition after two or three weeks and adjust. A cat that stops eating, or loses weight quickly, needs a vet sooner than a dog would... and no cat should go on a reducing diet without one.
Switching over
Cats are more suspicious of new food than dogs are, so go slowly. Start with a spoonful of the new alongside the old and build up over a week or more. If your cat refuses it outright, warming it slightly to room temperature helps more than anything else.
Sizes
2.8 oz pouches, sold by the case. Each pouch is one serving for most cats, which is the main appeal... nothing goes back in the fridge half-used.
On the label statement
Stella's page describes this as "a tasty treat or complete and balanced meal." They do not publish the formal AAFCO nutritional adequacy statement or a life stage for it, or for any of their 23 wet cat products, so we can't confirm from their website which life stage it's approved for. We won't repeat a marketing phrase as though it were the AAFCO statement. Ask us and we'll read the actual pouch.
