Know Before You Buy
- Animal proteins in this recipe: Venison, pork (pork, pork broth, pork liver), menhaden fish oil.

Venison is one of the less common proteins in a can, which makes this paté a go-to for families looking for something beyond chicken and fish. Instinct describes it as 95% grass-fed venison and pork liver with 5% fruits, vegetables and other ingredients, and it's grain-free.
What's actually in it
Grass-fed venison is the first ingredient, followed by pork, pork broth and pork liver, so it's really a venison and pork recipe. Menhaden fish oil and ground flaxseed add omega fatty acids, which Instinct includes to support skin and coat.
Peas and carrots are the main vegetables, with small amounts of cranberries, pumpkin, tomato, blueberries, broccoli, kale and parsley near the end. Instinct says it's made without grain, potato, corn, wheat, soy, artificial colors or preservatives.
Who it suits, and who it doesn't
It suits a cat who does well on red meat and a family wanting a poultry-free, egg-free paté to rotate in.

Treat the label as a starting point. Serve at room temperature, split the day's amount into meals, and always keep fresh water out. If you feed wet alongside kibble, trim both so the day's total doesn't creep up. Check your cat's body condition after two or three weeks... ribs easy to feel under a thin layer, a waist visible from above... and adjust.

Switching over
Change foods gradually over about a week. Start with roughly a quarter Instinct Venison Paté mixed into the old food, move to half, then three quarters, then all Instinct Venison Paté. Cats can be particular, so if yours hesitates, slow down rather than skipping ahead. Going slowly gives your cat's stomach time to adjust.
Sizes, and how long a case lasts
5.5 oz cans in a case of 12. At Instinct's 1 to 1 ¼ cans a day for a 6 to 8 lb adult cat, a case lasts roughly 10 to 12 days fed on its own. If you feed it alongside kibble, it will last longer.
Storage
Instinct's direction is to serve at room temperature and refrigerate any unused portion. Cover the opened can and use it within a few days. Keep unopened cans somewhere cool and dry.
