Instinct RawBoost+ Mixers Gut Health Recipe Freeze-Dried Dog Food Topper
Know Before You Buy
- Not a complete meal on its own. Instinct's label: "This product is intended for intermittent or supplemental feeding only."
- Animal proteins in this recipe: Chicken (chicken, chicken liver, chicken heart), salmon oil.
- Contains: Chicken ... Fish (salmon oil) ... Pumpkin and pumpkin seeds ... Chicory root.
- Does not contain: Beef, turkey, lamb, pork, grains, corn, wheat, soy, peas, lentils, chickpeas, white potatoes, egg or dairy (per the manufacturer's ingredient list).
- High fiber by design. Crude fiber can run up to 15%, far more than a typical food, from pumpkin and chicory root. Start with a small amount so your dog's stomach can get used to it.
RawBoost+ Mixers Gut Health are freeze-dried raw chicken pieces made to crumble over your dog's regular bowl. Instinct built this one around digestion, pairing raw chicken with pumpkin, sweet potato, chicory root and a probiotic. For a lot of dogs, the bigger draw is simpler... it makes dinner smell exciting again.
What's actually in it
Chicken, chicken liver and chicken heart are the protein, freeze-dried raw. Pumpkin, pumpkin seeds, sweet potatoes and chicory root bring fiber, which Instinct includes to support healthy digestion, and Bacillus coagulans is a live probiotic which Instinct includes for digestive health. Apple cider vinegar and salmon oil round it out. Annatto extract is a plant-based color, and mixed tocopherols and rosemary extract keep it fresh. Instinct says its frozen and freeze-dried raw recipes are made in its company-owned facilities in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Who it suits, and who it doesn't
It suits a dog on kibble who could use more interest at mealtime, picky eaters, and families who want to add a little raw chicken without switching foods. It also works as a small training reward.
It isn't the right choice for a dog avoiding chicken or fish, and it isn't meant to stand in for a full meal. A dog with ongoing stomach trouble should see a veterinarian rather than rely on a topper. If you're unsure, our Personal Pet Consultant is happy to help ... call 732-938-4470.

AAFCO statement
Instinct's label carries no complete-and-balanced statement for this product. Instead it says: "This product is intended for intermittent or supplemental feeding only." Treat it as an extra on top of a complete food, not a meal by itself.
Calorie content
4,555 kcal/kg ... 291 kcal per cup (Instinct's label: metabolizable energy, calculated). A cup means a standard 8-fluid-ounce dry measuring cup, filled level. It measures volume, not 8 ounces by weight, so scoop it rather than weigh it.
Feeding guidelines
From Instinct's label: "This product is intended for intermittent or supplemental feeding only. Add Instinct RawBoost Mixers to your dog's current food using the chart below. Remember to reduce the calorie amount of your current food accordingly to avoid overfeeding."
| Weight of dog | Cups per day | Calories per day |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 20 lb | ¼ | 72 |
| 21-40 lb | ½ | 145 |
| 41-60 lb | ¾ | 218 |
| Over 60 lbs | ¾ + | 218 + |
Cups are a standard 8 oz dry measuring cup. Always keep fresh water out.
Safe handling
Freeze-dried raw is still raw, so wash your hands and your dog's bowl with hot, soapy water after serving. Instinct says to store and serve it as you would any dry food. If you rehydrate it, Instinct says to discard leftovers within two hours.
Switching over
Start small. A light sprinkle of RawBoost+ Mixers Gut Health Recipe on the first few meals lets you see how your dog's stomach handles it, and you can build up from there over a week or so. Instinct reminds owners to cut back the main food a little to make room for the extra calories.
Sizes
5.5 oz and 23 oz bags. The 5.5 oz bag holds roughly 2½ cups and the 23 oz bag roughly 10. A 30 lb dog getting ½ cup a day goes through them in about 5 days and 20 days respectively. Counts are worked out from Instinct's printed calorie figures and are close estimates.
Storage
Unopened, Instinct gives its freeze-dried food a shelf life of two years. Once opened, Instinct says it stays fresh for up to 30 days as long as it's resealed between feedings. Keep it somewhere cool and dry, and press the air out before you zip it shut.
