Instinct RawBoost+ Mixers Tranquility Recipe Freeze-Dried Dog Food Topper

Instinct RawBoost+ Mixers Tranquility Recipe Freeze-Dried Dog Food Topper

RawBoost+ Mixers Tranquility (formerly Calming Support) is a freeze-dried raw turkey topper with a short list of ingredients Instinct picked to support a healthy peace of mind. It's a nice option for the dog who gets a little wound up, and it doubles as a treat.

What's actually in it

Turkey, turkey liver and turkey heart are the protein, so there's no chicken in this one. Instinct adds L-tryptophan, passionflower and valerian root, which Instinct includes to support a sense of calm, alongside cherries, sweet potatoes and yeast culture. Cod liver oil and fish oil supply omega fatty acids, and added vitamins and minerals account for the guaranteed tryptophan, magnesium, vitamin D and choline levels. Instinct says its frozen and freeze-dried raw recipes are made in its company-owned facilities in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Who it suits, and who it doesn't

It suits a dog on a regular food who would enjoy a raw turkey topper, dogs that need to avoid chicken, and families looking for a topper with calm-minded ingredients. A dog with real anxiety or behavior concerns should be seen by a veterinarian; a topper isn't a treatment.

It isn't the right choice for a dog avoiding turkey, fish or yeast, and it isn't meant to be a full meal. If you're unsure, our Personal Pet Consultant is happy to help ... call 732-938-4470.

AAFCO statement

Instinct's label carries no complete-and-balanced statement for this product. Instead it says: "This product is intended for intermittent or supplemental feeding only." Treat it as an extra on top of a complete food, not a meal by itself.

Calorie content

4,263 kcal/kg ... 252 kcal per cup (Instinct's label: metabolizable energy, calculated). A cup means a standard 8-fluid-ounce dry measuring cup, filled level. It measures volume, not 8 ounces by weight, so scoop it rather than weigh it.

Feeding guidelines

From Instinct's label: "This product is intended for intermittent or supplemental feeding only. Add Instinct RawBoost Mixers to your dog's current food using the chart below. Remember to reduce the calorie amount of your current food accordingly to avoid overfeeding."

Cups are a standard 8 oz dry measuring cup. Always keep fresh water out.

Safe handling

Freeze-dried raw is still raw, so wash your hands and your dog's bowl with hot, soapy water after serving. Instinct says to store and serve it as you would any dry food. If you rehydrate it, Instinct says to discard leftovers within two hours.

Switching over

Start small. A light sprinkle of RawBoost+ Mixers Tranquility Recipe on the first few meals lets you see how your dog's stomach handles it, and you can build up from there over a week or so. Instinct reminds owners to cut back the main food a little to make room for the extra calories.

Sizes

5.5 oz bag. The 5.5 oz bag holds roughly 2½ cups, about a week for a 30 lb dog at ⅜ cup a day. Counts are worked out from Instinct's printed calorie figures and are close estimates.

Storage

Unopened, Instinct gives its freeze-dried food a shelf life of two years. Once opened, Instinct says it stays fresh for up to 30 days as long as it's resealed between feedings. Keep it somewhere cool and dry, and press the air out before you zip it shut.
