Instinct Flaked Rabbit Entrée Wet Cat Food
Know Before You Buy
- Animal proteins in this recipe: Pork (pork broth, pork liver, pork), rabbit, egg product, menhaden fish oil.
- Contains: Pork ... Rabbit ... Egg ... Fish (menhaden fish oil) ... Peas (dried ground peas) ... Flaxseed.
- Does not contain: Grain, potato, corn, wheat, soy, carrageenan, chicken, beef or lamb (per the manufacturer's ingredient list).
- Pork comes first. Pork broth is the first ingredient and pork liver and pork follow rabbit, so this is a rabbit and pork recipe, not a rabbit-only diet.
- Life stage: Instinct's AAFCO statement covers all life stages, kittens through seniors.
Flaked Rabbit is the one to reach for when a cat is tired of chicken... flaked cuts of rabbit in a savory gravy, in a 3 oz can. Instinct makes it grain-free and complete and balanced for all life stages. It's also the lightest of the flaked cans in calories.
What's actually in it
Rabbit is the second ingredient, right after pork broth, and pork liver and pork follow it. Egg product, spinach, carrots and dried ground peas come next, with pumpkin, tomato, cranberries, blueberries, broccoli, kale and parsley further down. Menhaden fish oil and ground flaxseed add omega fatty acids. Guar, cassia and xanthan gums thicken the gravy, and there is no carrageenan.
Who it suits, and who it doesn't
It suits a healthy cat of any age whose family wants to rotate away from chicken... there is no chicken anywhere on the list. It also suits a cat that likes a chunky, gravy-style texture.
It isn't right for a cat that needs to avoid pork, egg or fish, and because pork is such a large part of the recipe, it shouldn't be treated as a single novel-protein rabbit diet. If you're unsure, our Personal Pet Consultant is happy to help ... call 732-938-4470.

Calorie content

Feeding guidelines
Instinct's published daily amount for adult cats:
| Adult cat body weight | Daily amount |
|---|---|
| Per 6 to 8 lb of body weight | 2¾ to 3½ cans per day |
Instinct adds: "Ideal feeding amounts depend on age, weight, and activity level. Refrigerate any unused portion. Your cat should always have access to clean fresh water."
Think of this as a starting point. Kittens, and cats that are pregnant or nursing, usually need more, and if you also feed dry food, cut back the cans to match. Check your cat's body condition after two or three weeks... ribs easy to feel under a thin layer, a waist visible from above... and adjust. Always keep fresh water out.
Switching over
Change foods gradually over about a week. Start with roughly a quarter Flaked Rabbit Entrée mixed into the old food, move to half, then three quarters, then all Flaked Rabbit Entrée. Going slowly gives your cat's stomach time to adjust.
Sizes, and how long a case lasts
We carry single 3 oz cans and cases of 24. Following Instinct's guide of 2¾ to 3½ cans per day for a cat in the 6 to 8 lb range, a case of 24 lasts about 6 to 8 days. Cats eating some dry food alongside will make a case last longer.
Storage
Store unopened cans somewhere cool and dry. Instinct recommends feeding at room temperature and refrigerating any unused portion. Cover the opened can and use it within a few days.
