Fromm PurrSnickitty Game Bird Grandeur Recipe Dry Cat Food
Know Before You Buy
- Animal proteins in this recipe: Turkey (turkey, turkey liver), duck (duck, duck liver), eggs, pheasant, quail, goose, salmon oil.
- Contains: Turkey ... Duck ... Other poultry (pheasant, quail, goose) ... Egg ... Fish (salmon oil) ... Legumes (chickpeas, peas, pea protein) ... Natural flavor (source not named).
- Does not contain: Chicken in any form (no chicken, chicken meal, chicken fat, chicken broth or chicken liver), grains of any kind, potatoes, dairy, corn, wheat or soy (per the manufacturer's ingredient list). This is a grain-free recipe.
- Mostly turkey and duck. Pheasant, quail and goose are listed after the sunflower oil, so they're small amounts. It is still all poultry, so it's not a fit for a cat avoiding birds in general.
- Life stage: Fromm's AAFCO statement covers all life stages, so it can be fed to kittens as well as adult cats.
PurrSnickitty Game Bird Grandeur brings a bit of variety to the bowl for the cat who's bored with the usual. Fromm describes it as a blend of turkey, duck, pheasant, quail and goose with added probiotics, made grain-free and cooked in Fromm's smaller PurrSnickitty kibble.
What's actually in it
Turkey and duck lead the list, followed by eggs, then duck liver and turkey liver. Pheasant, quail and goose come later, after the sunflower oil. There's no chicken fat here... the added fats are sunflower oil and a little salmon oil. Protein is a 32% minimum and fat a 17% minimum.
There are no grains. Chickpeas, peas, pea protein and tapioca starch make up the base. Fromm cooks the PurrSnickitty line with what they describe as a lower-and-slower process, which makes a smaller kibble with a gentle crunch that softens quickly as a cat chews. Fromm says that's meant to bring out aroma and flavor and give the mouthfeel cats like... good news if you share your home with a picky eater. Salmon oil and flaxseed add omega fatty acids, which Fromm includes to support skin and coat, and Fromm adds taurine, dried chicory root and a probiotic blend, which they include to support digestion. The preservatives are mixed tocopherols and sorbic acid.
Who it suits, and who it doesn't
It suits a choosy cat or kitten who likes poultry but is steering around chicken, and families who like to rotate flavors within the same line. Since the AAFCO statement covers all life stages, it works for kittens and adults alike.
It isn't for a cat avoiding turkey, duck, egg or poultry in general, and a cat with a fish sensitivity should note the salmon oil. If you're unsure, our Personal Pet Consultant is happy to help ... call 732-938-4470.

AAFCO statement
Fromm® PurrSnickitty™ Game Bird Grandeur Recipe Food for Cats is formulated to meet the nutritional levels established by the AAFCO Cat Food Nutrient Profiles for All Life Stages.
Calorie content
3,777 kcal/kg ... 1,717 kcal/lb ... 412 kcal per cup. A cup means a standard 8-fluid-ounce dry measuring cup, filled level. It measures volume, not 8 ounces by weight, so scoop it rather than weigh it.
Feeding guidelines
Fromm's published daily amounts, by your cat's current weight. Use the growth column for kittens and the adult maintenance column for grown cats. Split the total across two or more meals.
| Current weight | Growth (kittens) | Adult maintenance |
|---|---|---|
| 2 lb | ⅓ cup | ⅛ cup |
| 4 lb | ⅔ cup | ¼ cup |
| 6 lb | ⅞ cup | ⅓ cup |
| 8 lb | 1⅛ cups | ⅖ cup |
| 10 lb | 1⅓ cups | ½ cup |
| 12 lb | 1½ cups | ⅗ cup |
| 14 lb | 1⅔ cups | ⅝ cup |
| 16 lb | 1⅞ cups | ⅔ cup |
These are starting points, not prescriptions. Fromm notes that kittens weighing less than four pounds and/or younger than six weeks should be fed free choice, cats that are pregnant or nursing may need two to four times more food, and spayed or neutered cats may need up to 25% less. Check your cat's body condition after two or three weeks... ribs easy to feel under a thin layer, a gentle waist visible from above... and adjust. Always keep fresh water out.
Switching over
Change foods gradually over about a week. Start with roughly a quarter PurrSnickitty Game Bird Grandeur mixed into the old food, move to half, then three quarters, then all PurrSnickitty Game Bird Grandeur. Going slowly gives your cat's stomach time to adjust, and cats in particular tend to accept a new food more readily when it's introduced a little at a time.
Sizes, and how many cups you get
4 lb bag, which holds roughly 17 level cups. For a 10 lb adult cat eating ½ cup a day, that's about five weeks. Cup counts are worked out from Fromm's published calorie figures and are close estimates, since kibble settles as a bag is handled.
Storage
Keep the food in its original bag, rolled down tight, somewhere cool and dry. If you use a bin, put the whole bag inside it rather than pouring the kibble in, so the lot number stays with the food.
