Fromm Diner Classics Paula's Chicken & Pumpkin Pâté Wet Dog Food
Know Before You Buy
- Animal proteins in this recipe: Chicken (chicken, chicken broth, chicken liver), salmon oil.
- Contains: Chicken ... Fish (salmon oil) ... Grains (white rice).
- Does not contain: Beef, pork, lamb, turkey, egg, dairy, corn, wheat, soy, potatoes, peas or lentils (per the manufacturer's ingredient list).
- Chicken plus a little fish. Chicken is the only meat, but salmon oil is on the list, which matters for a dog avoiding fish.
- Life stage: Fromm's AAFCO statement covers all life stages, including growth of large size dogs (70 lb or more as an adult). It is a complete and balanced food, not just a topper.
Paula's is the smooth one in the Diner lineup. Finely minced chicken is cooked in chicken broth with pumpkin into a soft pâté that's easy to mash over kibble or serve on its own. Like every Diner recipe it's made in small batches by Fromm Family Foods, the family-owned company in Wisconsin, and it's complete and balanced for all life stages.
What's actually in it
Chicken, chicken broth, pumpkin and chicken liver are the first four ingredients, with white rice after them. Miscanthus grass, flaxseed and chicory root extract add fiber, and this recipe carries a higher fiber maximum (3%) than the Diner stews. Sunflower oil and salmon oil supply the added fat, and salmon oil and flaxseed add omega fatty acids, which Fromm includes to support skin and coat.
Xanthan gum and locust bean gum give it the firm pâté texture. There are no potatoes, peas or lentils on the list.
Who it suits, and who it doesn't
It suits dogs of any age who prefer a smooth texture, including small dogs, seniors who like a soft food, and large breed puppies, since the AAFCO statement covers all life stages. It mixes into dry food easily.
It isn't the right can for a dog avoiding chicken or fish. It does contain rice, so it isn't grain-free. If you're unsure, our Personal Pet Consultant is happy to help ... call 732-938-4470.

Feeding guidelines
Fromm's published daily amounts, by your dog's ideal weight, when this is the only food. Split the total across two meals.
| Ideal weight | Ounces per day | Cans of Diner Classics per day |
|---|---|---|
| 5 lb | 3.75 oz | 2/7 can |
| 10 lb | 7.5 oz | ⅗ can |
| 15 lb | 11.25 oz | 8/9 can |
| 20 lb | 15 oz | 1⅕ cans |
| 25 lb | 18.75 oz | 1½ cans |
| 30 lb | 22.5 oz | 1⅘ cans |
| 35 lb | 26.25 oz | 2⅑ cans |
| 40 lb | 30 oz | 2⅖ cans |
| 45 lb | 33.75 oz | 2 5/7 cans |
| 50 lb | 37.5 oz | 3 cans |
| 55 lb | 41.25 oz | 3 2/7 cans |
| 60 lb | 45 oz | 3⅗ cans |
| 65 lb | 48.75 oz | 3 8/9 cans |
| 70 lb | 52.5 oz | 4⅕ cans |
| 75 lb | 56.25 oz | 4½ cans |
| 80 lb | 60 oz | 4⅘ cans |
| 85 lb | 63.75 oz | 5 cans |
| 90 lb | 67.5 oz | 5⅖ cans |
| 95 lb | 71.25 oz | 5 5/7 cans |
| 100 lb | 75 oz | 6 cans |
These are starting points, not prescriptions. Fromm notes that puppies, and dogs that are pregnant or nursing, may need two to four times more food, and spayed or neutered dogs may need up to 25% less. If you serve this alongside kibble, cut both back so the day's total stays about the same. Check your dog's body condition after two or three weeks... ribs easy to feel under a thin layer, a waist visible from above... and adjust. Always keep fresh water out.
Switching over
Change foods gradually over about a week. Start with roughly a quarter Paula's mixed into the old food, move to half, then three quarters, then all Paula's. Going slowly gives your dog's stomach time to adjust.
Sizes, and how long a case lasts
12.5 oz cans, sold singly or in cases of 12. Fromm's chart has a 20 lb dog eating about 1⅕ cans a day as its only food, so a case lasts that dog about 10 days. Used as a topper, it goes much further. These are close estimates worked out from Fromm's chart.
Storage
Cover and refrigerate any unused portion and use it within a few days. Unopened cans keep best somewhere cool and dry.
