Fromm Classic Puppy Chicken & Salmon Pâté Wet Dog Food

Classic Puppy pâté is a family recipe from Fromm's oldest line, made with chicken, salmon, rice and potatoes at the Fromm family's facility in Wisconsin. It's built for growing puppies, and for mother dogs who are expecting or nursing, and it's soft enough to mash into kibble for little mouths.

What's actually in it

Chicken, chicken broth and salmon lead the list, followed by pork liver. White rice, dried beet pulp, pearled barley and potatoes supply the carbohydrates and fiber. Dried yeast, dried egg product and chicken cartilage appear further down. Salmon oil adds omega fatty acids, which Fromm includes to support skin and coat.

Fromm adds taurine, DL-methionine and choline chloride. Agar-agar sets the pâté. At 381 kcal per can, it's richer than most of Fromm's adult cans.

Who it suits, and who it doesn't

It suits puppies of all sizes, including large breed puppies, and pregnant or nursing mothers. It works as a full meal or stirred into a puppy kibble.

Feeding guidelines

Fromm's published daily amounts, by your dog's ideal weight, when this is the only food. Split the total across two meals.

These are starting points, not prescriptions. Fromm's chart is listed by ideal weight, and Fromm notes that puppies, and dogs that are pregnant or nursing, may need two to four times more food than the chart shows, so a growing puppy will usually eat more than its current weight suggests. Split the day's food into three or four small meals for young puppies. Check body condition every couple of weeks... ribs easy to feel under a thin layer, a waist visible from above... and adjust. Always keep fresh water out.

Switching over

Change foods gradually over about a week. Start with roughly a quarter Classic Puppy pâté mixed into the old food, move to half, then three quarters, then all Classic Puppy pâté. Going slowly gives your dog's stomach time to adjust.

Sizes, and how long a case lasts

12.5 oz cans in cases of 12. Fromm's chart lists about 1⅕ cans a day at a 20 lb ideal weight, which would make a case last about 10 days, but growing puppies often eat more, so expect a case to go faster. These are close estimates worked out from Fromm's chart.

Storage

Cover and refrigerate any unused portion and use it within a few days. Unopened cans keep best somewhere cool and dry.
