Stella & Chewy's Raw Coated Biscuits, Cage-Free Duck

Oven-baked biscuits coated in freeze-dried raw. Before you buy these as a duck treat, read the list.

There are three bird species in here, and duck is outnumbered

Stella's published order, first twelve:

  1. Cage-Free Duck
  2. Peas
  3. Chickpeas
  4. Turkey Meal
  5. Turkey Liver
  6. Sweet Potato
  7. Duck Fat
  8. Cane Molasses
  9. Natural Vegetable Flavor
  10. Cage-Free Turkey
  11. Goose
  12. Turkey Gizzard

Turkey meal and turkey liver both sit ahead of the duck fat. Turkey appears four times, duck twice, goose once.

Stella's bullet for these reads rich in organ meat. The organ meat is turkey liver and turkey gizzard... there is no duck organ in the recipe at all.

If you're buying duck to avoid turkey, this is the wrong treat, and nothing on the front of the bag will tell you. If you're running an elimination diet with your vet, same answer. Come and talk to us... Stella's lamb Wild Weenies and their single-ingredient freeze-dried treats are genuinely single-species.

For a dog that eats poultry happily, it's a good biscuit and the variety is real. Just buy it for what it is.

There is sugar in these

Cane molasses sits at position eight, in all four Raw Coated Biscuit recipes. It's there for binding and palatability, and the amount is small at that position, but it is a sugar and we'd rather name it than let you find it in the small print.

If sugar is something you're watching, Stella's freeze-dried single-ingredient treats contain exactly one thing each and no sweetener at all.

Where these sit against the other three biscuits

Raw Coated Biscuit Protein Fat kcal/biscuit Species
Duck 22% 11% 22 duck, turkey, goose
Chicken 20% 11% 22 chicken only
Beef 20% 11% 22 beef, lamb, pork
Lamb 20% 14% 24 lamb, pork

Highest protein of the four, at 22%. Note these are biscuits, not raw food... Stella's freeze-dried treats run 37% to 74% protein because they're pure meat. A baked biscuit needs starch to hold its shape.

How many to give

Stella publishes no treat count and no dog-size guidance for these, and no "10% of daily calories" line either, though they do print that on their bone broths.

So here's ours: at 22 calories a biscuit, the usual rule of keeping treats to around 10% of daily calories means roughly two a day for a 20 lb dog, more for a bigger one. Your vet can give you your dog's actual daily number.

Guaranteed analysis

  • Crude Protein (min) ... 22%
  • Crude Fat (min) ... 11%
  • Crude Fiber (max) ... 6%
  • Moisture (max) ... 10%

Calorie content

22 kcal per biscuit ... 3,684 kcal/kg

On the label statement

Stella publishes no AAFCO statement for these, and no "for intermittent or supplemental feeding only" line, which is what you'd normally expect on a treat. Its absence doesn't make a biscuit a complete food. These are treats... keep them to around 10% of the day's calories and let a balanced food do the rest.

Storage and serving

Shelf-stable, no refrigeration needed. Break larger biscuits down for a small dog and give with fresh water nearby. Supervise, as with any treat.
