Stella & Chewy's Raw Coated Biscuits, Cage-Free Chicken
Oven-baked biscuits coated in freeze-dried raw. Of Stella's four biscuit recipes, this is the only one that contains a single animal species.
Chicken, and nothing else animal
Cage-free chicken, chicken liver, chicken fat, chicken meal and chicken gizzard. We read the whole list and there is no second species anywhere in it.
That isn't true across the range, and the names won't warn you:
| Raw Coated Biscuit | Species actually in it |
|---|---|
| Chicken | chicken only |
| Lamb | lamb, plus pork meal |
| Beef | beef, plus lamb fat and pork meal |
| Duck | duck, plus turkey four times and goose |
So if you need a short, honest label in a baked treat, this is the one in the line. Chicken is of course the protein most dogs have already had the most of... if you're after a novel protein for an elimination diet, Stella's single-ingredient freeze-dried treats or their lamb Wild Weenies are better suited.
One place the bullet oversells it
Stella prints rich in organ meat on all four biscuit recipes. This one contains two organs, chicken liver and chicken gizzard. Their beef and lamb versions carry four and five respectively.
Two organ components in a baked biscuit is still more than most brands manage, so it isn't a bad list. It just isn't the richest one Stella makes, despite the identical bullet.
There is sugar in these
Cane molasses sits at position six, in all four Raw Coated Biscuit recipes. It's there for binding and palatability and the amount is small at that position, but it is a sugar and we'd rather name it than let you find it in the small print.
If sugar is something you're watching, Stella's freeze-dried single-ingredient treats contain exactly one thing each and no sweetener.
Where these sit
| Raw Coated Biscuit | Protein | Fat | kcal/biscuit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Duck | 22% | 11% | 22 |
| Chicken | 20% | 11% | 22 |
| Beef | 20% | 11% | 22 |
| Lamb | 20% | 14% | 24 |
Tied for the leanest of the four. These are biscuits, not raw food... Stella's freeze-dried treats run 37% to 74% protein because they're pure meat, and a baked biscuit needs starch to hold its shape.
How many to give
Stella publishes no treat count and no dog-size guidance for these, and no "10% of daily calories" line either, though they do print that on their bone broths.
So here's ours: at 22 calories a biscuit, the usual rule of keeping treats to around 10% of daily calories works out to roughly two a day for a 20 lb dog, more for a bigger one. Your vet can give you your dog's actual daily number.

On the label statement
Stella publishes no AAFCO statement for these, and no "for intermittent or supplemental feeding only" line, which is what you'd normally expect on a treat. Its absence doesn't make a biscuit a complete food. These are treats... keep them to around 10% of the day's calories and let a balanced food do the rest.
Storage and serving
Shelf-stable, no refrigeration needed. Break larger biscuits down for a small dog and give with fresh water nearby. Supervise, as with any treat.
