Fromm Venison & Beef Pate Wet Dog Food
Know Before You Buy
- Animal proteins in this recipe: Beef broth, venison, beef, beef liver, pork.
- Contains: Venison ... Beef ... Pork ... Grains (whole barley) ... Peas ... Potatoes.
- Does not contain: Chicken (including chicken broth, chicken fat and chicken liver), lamb, turkey, fish (including fish oil), egg, dairy, corn, wheat, soy or yeast (per the manufacturer's ingredient list).
- Not a venison diet. Beef broth is the first ingredient, beef and beef liver follow the venison, and pork is in the can too.
- Life stage: Fromm's AAFCO statement covers all life stages, except for growth of large size dogs (70 lb or more as an adult).
Venison & Beef is the Fromm Pâté for the dog who likes a heartier, gamier flavor. Fromm Family Foods, a family-owned company based in Mequon, Wisconsin, describes it as finely minced venison and beef cooked with barley, potatoes and carrots.
What's actually in it
Beef broth leads the list, followed by venison, beef and beef liver, so beef plays as big a role as the venison. Pork appears later in the list. There is no chicken and no fish oil in this recipe.
Whole barley is the grain, with potatoes, carrots, peas and a little tomato paste. Xanthan gum and locust bean gum set the pâté, and Fromm adds vitamins and minerals, including proteinate (chelated) forms.
Who it suits, and who it doesn't
It suits a healthy adult dog, or a small or medium breed puppy, that does well on beef and pork and enjoys a richer flavor. It's also one of the few Fromm cans with no chicken and no fish at all. Because Fromm's AAFCO statement excludes growth of large size dogs, it isn't meant as the main food for a large breed puppy.
It isn't the right can for a dog avoiding beef, pork or grains, or one that needs venison as its only protein. If you're unsure, our Personal Pet Consultant is happy to help ... call 732-938-4470.

Feeding guidelines
Fromm's published daily amounts when this is the only food in the bowl, by your dog's ideal weight. Split the total across two meals.
| Ideal weight | Ounces of food per day | Cans of Fromm Pâté per day |
|---|---|---|
| 5 lb | 3.75 oz | ⅓ can |
| 10 lb | 7.5 oz | 3/5 can |
| 15 lb | 11.25 oz | 1 can |
| 20 lb | 15 oz | 1 2/9 cans |
| 25 lb | 18.75 oz | 1½ cans |
| 30 lb | 22.5 oz | 1 5/6 cans |
| 35 lb | 26.25 oz | 2 1/7 cans |
| 40 lb | 30 oz | 2½ cans |
| 45 lb | 33.75 oz | 2¾ cans |
| 50 lb | 37.5 oz | 3 cans |
| 55 lb | 41.25 oz | 3⅜ cans |
| 60 lb | 45 oz | 3⅔ cans |
| 65 lb | 48.75 oz | 4 cans |

| 80 lb | 60 oz | 5 cans |
| 85 lb | 63.75 oz | 5 2/9 cans |
| 90 lb | 67.5 oz | 5½ cans |
| 95 lb | 71.25 oz | 5 5/6 cans |
| 100 lb | 75 oz | 6 1/7 cans |
These are starting points, not prescriptions. Fromm notes that puppies, and dogs that are pregnant or nursing, may need two to four times more food, and spayed or neutered dogs may need up to 25% less. If you serve it alongside kibble, cut back on both so the day's total stays about the same. Check your dog's body condition after two or three weeks... ribs easy to feel under a thin layer, a waist visible from above... and adjust. Always keep fresh water out.
Switching over
Change foods gradually over about a week. Start with roughly a quarter Venison & Beef mixed into the old food, move to half, then three quarters, then all Venison & Beef. Going slowly gives your dog's stomach time to adjust.
Sizes, and how long a case lasts
Sold as a single 13 oz can or a case of 12 cans. For a 20 lb dog eating only this food, Fromm's chart calls for 1 2/9 cans a day, so a case of 12 lasts about ten days. Fed as a topper over kibble, a case goes much further. Fromm's current listing shows a 12.2 oz can, and the calorie and feeding figures above are based on Fromm's can.
Storage
Store unopened cans somewhere cool and dry. Cover and refrigerate any unused portion and use it within a few days.
