Know Before You Buy

Frommbalaya Turkey is a cozy stew of turkey with potatoes, carrots, peas and rice in a savory broth... a little Thanksgiving in a can. Fromm Family Foods, a family-owned company based in Mequon, Wisconsin, prepares it in small batches, and it's complete and balanced as a meal or a topper.
What's actually in it
Turkey and turkey broth come first, then chicken broth, potatoes, carrots, peas and white rice, with dried egg product for a little extra protein. At 82% moisture, it's soft and brothy, which many dogs find hard to resist.
Xanthan gum thickens the broth. Salmon oil adds omega fatty acids, which Fromm includes to support skin and coat, and the added vitamins and minerals make it complete and balanced.
Who it suits, and who it doesn't
It suits a dog who loves poultry and wants a change from straight chicken, a picky eater, or a senior who prefers a soft meal. The AAFCO statement covers all life stages, including large breed growth.

These are starting points, not prescriptions. Fromm notes that puppies, and dogs that are pregnant or nursing, may need two to four times more food, and spayed or neutered dogs may need up to 25% less. If you serve it alongside kibble, cut back on both so the day's total stays about the same. Check your dog's body condition after two or three weeks... ribs easy to feel under a thin layer, a waist visible from above... and adjust. Always keep fresh water out.
Switching over
Change foods gradually over about a week. Start with roughly a quarter Frommbalaya Turkey mixed into the old food, move to half, then three quarters, then all Frommbalaya Turkey. If you're only adding a spoonful as a topper, a slow start still helps. Going slowly gives your dog's stomach time to adjust.
Sizes, and how long a case lasts
Sold as a single 13 oz can or a case of 12. Using Fromm's chart, a 20 lb dog eating 1 1/5 cans a day as its only food would go through a case in about 10 days. Served as a topper over kibble, a case lasts a good deal longer.
Storage
Cover and refrigerate any unused portion and use it within a few days. Unopened cans keep best somewhere cool and dry.
