Know Before You Buy

Frommbalaya Beef is a hearty, spoonable stew... chunks of beef with potatoes, carrots and rice in a savory broth. Fromm Family Foods, the family-owned company from Mequon, Wisconsin, says it's prepared in small batches, and it's complete and balanced, so it can be a full meal or a generous topper that turns a bowl of kibble into dinner worth waiting for.
What's actually in it
Beef and beef broth lead the list, followed by pork broth and pork, then potatoes, carrots, white rice and peas. Dried egg product adds a bit more protein. At 82% moisture this is a wet, brothy food, which is why the protein and fat percentages look low next to kibble... on a dry matter basis they're far higher.
Salmon oil adds omega fatty acids, which Fromm includes to support skin and coat. Xanthan gum thickens the broth into a stew, and the vitamins and minerals round it out so it can stand on its own as a complete meal.
Who it suits, and who it doesn't
It suits a dog who loves a rich, beefy bowl, a picky eater who needs some enticement, or an older dog who finds a soft stew easier than crunchy kibble. Because the AAFCO statement covers all life stages, it works for puppies too, including large breed puppies.

These are starting points, not prescriptions. Fromm notes that puppies, and dogs that are pregnant or nursing, may need two to four times more food, and spayed or neutered dogs may need up to 25% less. If you serve it alongside kibble, cut back on both so the day's total stays about the same. Check your dog's body condition after two or three weeks... ribs easy to feel under a thin layer, a waist visible from above... and adjust. Always keep fresh water out.
Switching over
Change foods gradually over about a week. Start with roughly a quarter Frommbalaya Beef mixed into the old food, move to half, then three quarters, then all Frommbalaya Beef. If you're only adding a spoonful as a topper, a slow start still helps. Going slowly gives your dog's stomach time to adjust.
Sizes, and how long a case lasts
Sold as a single 13 oz can or a 12-can case of 13 oz cans. Using Fromm's chart, a 20 lb dog eating 1 1/5 cans a day as its only food would go through a case in about 10 days. Served as a topper over kibble, a case lasts a good deal longer.
Storage
Cover and refrigerate any unused portion and use it within a few days. Unopened cans keep best somewhere cool and dry.
