Know Before You Buy

Chicken & Salmon Pâté is Fromm's surf-and-turf take on a smooth can: finely minced chicken and salmon cooked in chicken broth. Fromm Family Foods, a family-owned company in Mequon, Wisconsin, makes it in small batches, and it's complete and balanced for all life stages.
What's actually in it
Chicken and chicken broth come first, then salmon, whitefish and chicken liver. Flaxseed, tomato paste and dried egg product follow. There are no grains on the ingredient list.
Flaxseed and the salmon itself bring omega fatty acids, which Fromm includes to support skin and coat. Taurine, which cats need in their diet, is added along with choline chloride and a full vitamin and mineral pack. Agar-agar and xanthan gum give it the pâté texture.
Who it suits, and who it doesn't
It suits a cat who enjoys both poultry and fish and prefers a smooth texture. Because Fromm's AAFCO statement covers all life stages, it can be fed to kittens as well as adults.

These are starting points, not prescriptions. Fromm notes that kittens, and cats that are pregnant or nursing, may need two to four times more food, that kittens under four pounds and/or younger than six weeks should be fed free choice, and that spayed or neutered cats may need up to 25% less. Check your cat's body condition after two or three weeks... ribs easy to feel under a thin layer, a gentle waist behind the ribs... and adjust. If you feed dry food as well, cut the canned amount back so the day's total stays about the same. Always keep fresh water out.
Switching over
Cats can be particular, so change foods gradually over about a week, or longer for a picky eater. Start with a small spoonful of Chicken & Salmon Pâté mixed into the old food, then increase it a little each day until it's the whole meal. Going slowly gives your cat's stomach, and opinions, time to adjust.
Sizes, and how long a case lasts
5.5 oz cans, sold here by the case. Fromm packs Chicken & Salmon Pâté 12 cans to a case. For a 10 lb cat eating 1⅘ cans a day with nothing else, a case of 12 lasts just under a week. If you also feed dry food, it will stretch further. Can counts are worked out from Fromm's feeding chart and are close estimates.
Storage
Fromm doesn't publish separate guidance for opened cans, so follow the usual rule: cover and refrigerate any unused portion and use it within a few days. Unopened cans keep best somewhere cool and dry.
