Fromm Classic Mature Adult Dry Dog Food
Know Before You Buy
- Animal proteins in this recipe: Chicken (chicken, chicken meal, chicken fat, chicken liver), cheese, menhaden fish meal, egg.
- Contains: Chicken ... Fish ... Egg ... Dairy (cheese) ... Grains (pearled barley, brown rice, white rice, oatmeal) ... Yeast.
- Does not contain: Corn, wheat, soy, beef, pork, lamb, peas, lentils or potatoes (per the manufacturer's ingredient list).
- Maintenance only, and still a chicken food. It is not cleared for puppies, and chicken and chicken meal are the first two ingredients.
- Life stage: Fromm's AAFCO statement covers maintenance only. It is not formulated for growth, so it is not a puppy food.
Classic Mature Adult is the gentler, lighter member of Fromm's Classic family, built for the dog who has slowed down a little. It keeps the same plain chicken-and-grains approach as Classic Adult, with less fat and fewer calories per cup, which makes it easier to feed a satisfying portion to an older dog who naps more than he runs.
What's actually in it
Chicken and chicken meal lead, then a run of grains, then chicken fat, cheese, chicken liver, menhaden fish meal and dried egg product. Cheese sits higher on this list than in Classic Adult, which many older dogs seem to appreciate at the bowl.
The grains are pearled barley, brown rice, white rice and oatmeal, with beet pulp for fiber. There are no potatoes, peas or lentils. Flaxseed adds omega fatty acids, which Fromm includes to support skin and coat, and Fromm adds a probiotic blend and chicory root extract, which they include to support digestion. Compared with Classic Adult, the minimum fat drops from 15% to 11% and the calories from 409 to 363 per cup.
Who it suits, and who it doesn't
It suits an older or less active adult dog with no known food sensitivities who is holding a healthy weight, or who tends to gain on a richer food. It is also a reasonable choice for a calm adult dog of any age that simply doesn't burn many calories.
It isn't for puppies, since the AAFCO statement covers maintenance only, and it isn't for a dog avoiding chicken, fish, egg or dairy. A senior dog that is losing weight may need a richer food rather than a lighter one. If you're unsure, our Personal Pet Consultant is happy to help ... call 732-938-4470.

AAFCO statement
Fromm Family Classic Mature Adult Dog Food is formulated to meet the nutritional levels established by the AAFCO Dog Food Nutrient Profiles for maintenance.
Calorie content
3,563 kcal/kg ... 1,620 kcal/lb ... 363 kcal per cup. A cup means a standard 8-fluid-ounce dry measuring cup, filled level. It measures volume, not 8 ounces by weight, so scoop it rather than weigh it.
Feeding guidelines
Fromm's published daily amounts, by your dog's ideal weight. Most mature dogs fit the less active column. Split the total across two meals.
| Ideal weight | Less active adult | Active adult |
|---|---|---|
| 5 lb | ⅓ cup | ½ cup |
| 10 lb | ⅔ cup | 1 cup |
| 15 lb | ⅞ cup | 1¼ cups |
| 20 lb | 1 cup | 1½ cups |
| 25 lb | 1¼ cups | 1⅞ cups |
| 30 lb | 1½ cups | 2⅛ cups |
| 35 lb | 1⅔ cups | 2½ cups |
| 40 lb | 1¾ cups | 2⅔ cups |
| 45 lb | 1⅞ cups | 2⅞ cups |
| 50 lb | 2 cups | 3⅛ cups |
| 55 lb | 2¼ cups | 3⅓ cups |
| 60 lb | 2⅓ cups | 3⅔ cups |
| 65 lb | 2½ cups | 3⅞ cups |
| 70 lb | 2⅔ cups | 4 cups |
| 75 lb | 2⅞ cups | 4¼ cups |
| 80 lb | 3 cups | 4½ cups |
| 85 lb | 3⅛ cups | 4⅔ cups |
| 90 lb | 3¼ cups | 4⅞ cups |
| 95 lb | 3⅓ cups | 5 cups |
| 100 lb | 3½ cups | 5¼ cups |
These are starting points, not prescriptions. Fromm notes that spayed or neutered dogs may need up to 25% less food. Older dogs can gain or lose quietly, so check your dog's body condition every few weeks... ribs easy to feel under a thin layer, a waist visible from above... and adjust. Always keep fresh water out.
Switching over
Change foods gradually over about a week. Start with roughly a quarter Classic Mature Adult mixed into the old food, move to half, then three quarters, then all Classic Mature Adult. Going slowly gives your dog's stomach time to adjust.
Sizes, and how many cups you get
30 lb bag, which holds roughly 134 level cups. For a 50 lb less active dog eating 2 cups a day, that's nearly ten weeks. Cup counts are worked out from Fromm's published calorie figures and are close estimates, since kibble settles as a bag is handled.
Storage
Keep the food in its original bag, rolled down tight, somewhere cool and dry. If you use a bin, put the whole bag inside it rather than pouring the kibble in, so the lot number stays with the food.
