Fromm Four-Star Turkey Pâté Wet Cat Food
Know Before You Buy
- Animal proteins in this recipe: Turkey, turkey broth, turkey liver, salmon oil.
- Contains: Turkey ... Fish (salmon oil) ... Grains (pearled barley).
- Does not contain: Chicken, beef, pork, lamb, duck, egg, dairy, corn, wheat, soy, peas, lentils, chickpeas, potatoes or yeast (per the manufacturer's ingredient list).
- Chicken-free, but not fish-free and not grain-free. Salmon oil is on the list, and pearled barley is the fourth ingredient.
- Life stage: Fromm's AAFCO statement covers all life stages under the AAFCO Cat Food Nutrient Profiles, so it can be fed to kittens and adult cats alike.
Turkey Pâté is about as straightforward as Fromm's Four-Star cans get: finely minced turkey cooked in broth, with a little barley. Fromm Family Foods, a family-owned company in Mequon, Wisconsin, makes it in small batches, and it's complete and balanced for cats of every age.
What's actually in it
Turkey shows up three ways at the top of the list: turkey, turkey broth and turkey liver. Pearled barley follows as the only grain, then tomato paste and flaxseed. There's no chicken anywhere on the list.
Salmon oil adds omega fatty acids, which Fromm includes to support skin and coat. Taurine, an amino acid cats need in their diet, is added, along with choline chloride and a full vitamin and mineral pack. Agar-agar and xanthan gum give it the smooth pâté texture.
Who it suits, and who it doesn't
It suits a cat that likes a smooth pâté and a family looking for a chicken-free option with a single main poultry protein. Because Fromm's AAFCO statement covers all life stages, it works for kittens and adults in the same household.
It isn't the right can for a cat avoiding turkey or fish, or for a family that wants grain-free, since barley is in it. If you're unsure, our Personal Pet Consultant is happy to help ... call 732-938-4470.

AAFCO statement
Fromm Four-Star Nutritionals® Turkey Pâté Food for Cats is formulated to meet the nutritional levels established by the AAFCO Cat Food Nutrient Profiles for All Life Stages.
Calorie content
1,192 kcal/kg ... 186 kcal per 5.5 oz can (metabolizable energy, calculated, as published by Fromm).
Feeding guidelines
Fromm's published daily amounts, by your cat's ideal weight, when this pâté is the whole diet. Split the total across two or more meals.
| Ideal weight | Ounces of food per day | 5.5 oz cans per day |
|---|---|---|
| 4 lb | 4 oz | 5/7 can |
| 6 lb | 6 oz | 1 can |
| 8 lb | 8 oz | 1½ cans |
| 10 lb | 10 oz | 1⅘ cans |
| 12 lb | 12 oz | 2⅙ cans |
| 14 lb | 14 oz | 2½ cans |
| 16 lb | 16 oz | 3 cans |
| 18 lb | 18 oz | 3 2/7 cans |
| 20 lb | 20 oz | 3⅝ cans |
| 22 lb | 22 oz | 4 cans |
| 24 lb | 24 oz | 4⅓ cans |
| 26 lb | 26 oz | 4¾ cans |
| 28 lb | 28 oz | 5 cans |
| 30 lb | 30 oz | 5 4/9 cans |
These are starting points, not prescriptions. Fromm notes that kittens, and cats that are pregnant or nursing, may need two to four times more food, that kittens under four pounds and/or younger than six weeks should be fed free choice, and that spayed or neutered cats may need up to 25% less. Check your cat's body condition after two or three weeks... ribs easy to feel under a thin layer, a gentle waist behind the ribs... and adjust. If you feed dry food as well, cut the canned amount back so the day's total stays about the same. Always keep fresh water out.
Switching over
Cats can be particular, so change foods gradually over about a week, or longer for a picky eater. Start with a small spoonful of Turkey Pâté mixed into the old food, then increase it a little each day until it's the whole meal. Going slowly gives your cat's stomach, and opinions, time to adjust.
Sizes, and how long a case lasts
5.5 oz cans, sold here by the case. Fromm packs Turkey Pâté 12 cans to a case. For a 10 lb cat eating 1⅘ cans a day with nothing else, a case of 12 lasts just under a week. If you also feed dry food, it will stretch further. Can counts are worked out from Fromm's feeding chart and are close estimates.
Storage
Fromm doesn't publish separate guidance for opened cans, so follow the usual rule: cover and refrigerate any unused portion and use it within a few days. Unopened cans keep best somewhere cool and dry.
