Fromm Four-Star Shredded Chicken in Gravy Wet Dog Food
Know Before You Buy
- Animal proteins in this recipe: Chicken broth, chicken, salmon oil.

Shredded Chicken in Gravy is lighter in calories than the beef and pork versions and a gentle way to add moisture and interest to a dog's dinner. Fromm Family Foods, a family-owned company based in Mequon, Wisconsin, cooks shredded chicken in chicken broth with potatoes, carrots and beans, in small batches.
What's actually in it
Chicken broth is the first ingredient and chicken is the second. That broth-first order is normal for a gravy entrée and is part of why it runs lower in calories than the beef and pork versions. Salmon oil is the only other animal ingredient, and Fromm includes it as a source of omega fatty acids to support skin and coat.
It's grain-free. Potatoes, carrots, green beans, peas, and pinto, kidney and white beans make up the rest, with tomato paste for flavor and xanthan gum to thicken the gravy. Fromm adds vitamins and minerals, including proteinate (chelated) forms of zinc, iron, copper and manganese, plus choline chloride.
Who it suits, and who it doesn't
It suits a healthy dog of any age that does well on chicken, and Fromm's AAFCO statement covers large breed puppies too. Because it's lower in calories per can, it's an easy topper for a dog who needs a little encouragement at mealtime without adding much to the day.

These are starting points, not prescriptions. Fromm notes that puppies, and dogs that are pregnant or nursing, may need two to four times more food, and spayed or neutered dogs may need up to 25% less. If you serve it alongside kibble, cut back on both so the day's total stays about the same. Check your dog's body condition after two or three weeks... ribs easy to feel under a thin layer, a waist visible from above... and adjust. Always keep fresh water out.
Switching over
Change foods gradually over about a week. Start with roughly a quarter Shredded Chicken mixed into the old food, move to half, then three quarters, then all Shredded Chicken. Going slowly gives your dog's stomach time to adjust.
Sizes, and how long a case lasts
Sold as a single 13 oz can or a case of 12 cans. For a 20 lb dog eating only this food, Fromm's chart calls for 1¼ cans a day, so a case of 12 lasts about nine or ten days. Fed as a topper over kibble, a case goes much further. Fromm's current listing shows a 12 oz can, and the calorie and feeding figures above are based on Fromm's can.
Storage
Store unopened cans somewhere cool and dry. Cover and refrigerate any unused portion and use it within a few days.
