Fromm Four-Star Grain Free Salmon Tunachovy Dry Cat Food
Know Before You Buy
- Animal proteins in this recipe: Salmon, salmon meal, fish broth, whitefish, dried egg product, chicken fat, chicken liver, tuna, anchovy, salmon oil, sardine meal.
- Contains: Fish ... Chicken (chicken fat, chicken liver) ... Egg ... Peas (peas, pea protein, pea flour) ... Potatoes.
- Does not contain: Corn, wheat, rice, barley, oats, soy, beef, dairy or yeast (per the manufacturer's ingredient list).
- Not a chicken-free food. The name is all fish, but chicken fat and chicken liver are both on the list, right after the dried tomato pomace.
- Life stage: Fromm's AAFCO statement covers all life stages, so it can be fed to kittens and adult cats alike.
Salmon Tunachovy is the Four-Star recipe for the cat who lights up at anything from the sea. Fromm Family Foods, a family-owned company based in Mequon, Wisconsin, built it as a grain-free entrée with salmon, fish broth, tuna and anchovy, and it's one of several Four-Star recipes Fromm designs to be rotated with one another.
What's actually in it
Salmon and salmon meal lead the list, followed by fish broth. Salmon meal is simply salmon with the water cooked out, so it adds concentrated protein by weight. Whitefish, tuna, anchovy and sardine meal follow further down, along with dried egg product. Chicken fat and chicken liver are also in the recipe, so this is a fish-forward food rather than a fish-only one.
With no grains, the carbohydrates come from peas, pea flour, potatoes and sweet potatoes, and pea protein adds to the protein total. Salmon oil and flaxseed add omega fatty acids, which Fromm includes to support skin and coat. Taurine is added, and Fromm includes a probiotic blend and chicory root extract to support digestion. Small amounts of zucchini, carrots, apples, broccoli, cranberries and blueberries round it out. The only preservatives are mixed tocopherols (a natural source of vitamin E) and sorbic acid.
Who it suits, and who it doesn't
It suits a healthy cat of any age with no known food sensitivities, especially a fish lover, and families who have chosen a grain-free food. Fromm notes it provides complete and balanced nutrition for cats of all ages, so a kitten and an adult in the same home can share the bag.
It isn't the right bag for a cat avoiding chicken or egg, since both are in it, or for a household steering away from peas. A cat that does better on a single fish protein may want a closer look at the full list first. If you're unsure, our Personal Pet Consultant is happy to help ... call 732-938-4470.

AAFCO statement
Fromm Four-Star Nutritionals® Salmon Tunachovy® Food for Cats is formulated to meet the nutritional levels established by the AAFCO Cat Food Nutrient Profiles for All Life Stages.
Calorie content
3,621 kcal/kg ... 1,646 kcal/lb ... 406 kcal per cup. A cup means a standard 8-fluid-ounce dry measuring cup, filled level. It measures volume, not 8 ounces by weight, so scoop it rather than weigh it.
Feeding guidelines
Fromm's published daily amounts, by your cat's ideal weight. Split the total across two or more meals.
| Ideal weight | Daily amount |
|---|---|
| 5 lb | ⅓ cup |
| 10 lb | ½ cup |
| 15 lb | ⅔ cup |
These are starting points, not prescriptions. Fromm notes that kittens under four pounds or younger than six weeks should be fed free choice, kittens and cats that are pregnant or nursing may need two to four times more food, and spayed or neutered cats may need up to 25% less. Check your cat's body condition after two or three weeks... ribs easy to feel under a thin layer, a gentle waist behind the ribs... and adjust. Always keep fresh water out.
Switching over
Change foods gradually over about a week, or a little longer for a fussy cat. Start with roughly a quarter Salmon Tunachovy mixed into the old food, move to half, then three quarters, then all Salmon Tunachovy. Going slowly gives your cat's stomach time to adjust.
Sizes, and how many cups you get
10 lb bag, which holds roughly 40 level cups. For a 10 lb cat eating ½ cup a day, that's about two and a half months. Cup counts are worked out from Fromm's published calorie figures and are close estimates, since kibble settles as a bag is handled.
Storage
Keep the food in its original bag, rolled down tight, somewhere cool and dry. If you use a bin, put the whole bag inside it rather than pouring the kibble in, so the lot number stays with the food.
