Know Before You Buy

Frommbalaya Lamb brings lamb to the stew pot, cooked with potatoes, carrots and rice in a savory broth. Fromm Family Foods, the family-owned company from Mequon, Wisconsin, makes it in small batches, and it's complete and balanced, so it can be the whole meal or a tasty spoonful on top of kibble.
What's actually in it
Lamb is the first ingredient. After it come pork broth, beef broth and pork, then potatoes, carrots, white rice and peas, with dried egg product for a bit more protein. So while lamb is the headline, the broth and supporting meat are pork and beef. At 82% moisture it's a soft, brothy stew.
Tapioca starch, xanthan gum and a little roasted barley flour thicken the broth. Salmon oil adds omega fatty acids, which Fromm includes to support skin and coat, and added vitamins and minerals make it complete.
Who it suits, and who it doesn't
It suits a dog who enjoys lamb and does fine with pork and beef, and anyone looking for a change of pace from poultry. The AAFCO statement covers all life stages, including large breed growth, so it's fine for puppies too.

These are starting points, not prescriptions. Fromm notes that puppies, and dogs that are pregnant or nursing, may need two to four times more food, and spayed or neutered dogs may need up to 25% less. If you serve it alongside kibble, cut back on both so the day's total stays about the same. Check your dog's body condition after two or three weeks... ribs easy to feel under a thin layer, a waist visible from above... and adjust. Always keep fresh water out.
Switching over
Change foods gradually over about a week. Start with roughly a quarter Frommbalaya Lamb mixed into the old food, move to half, then three quarters, then all Frommbalaya Lamb. If you're only adding a spoonful as a topper, a slow start still helps. Going slowly gives your dog's stomach time to adjust.
Sizes, and how long a case lasts
Sold as a single 13 oz can or a case of 12. Using Fromm's chart, a 20 lb dog eating 1 1/5 cans a day as its only food would go through a case in about 10 days. Served as a topper over kibble, a case lasts a good deal longer.
Storage
Cover and refrigerate any unused portion and use it within a few days. Unopened cans keep best somewhere cool and dry.
