Summer Yard Hazards: Mushrooms, Toads, BBQ Skewers & Unidentified Lawn Objects

All Posts

Every summer yard has at least ONE mysterious object that makes you say, “What even IS that?” Dogs, of course, want to eat it. Cats want to poke it. Goats want to climb it. July is a minefield of odd hazards — and pets will investigate every single one.

Watch for mushrooms. Rain + heat = surprise mushrooms popping up overnight. Many are toxic. Remove them quickly before curious pets sample them.

Toads and frogs are active now. Some species secrete toxins that can make dogs foam at the mouth or vomit. Keep an eye out at dusk when amphibians are most active.

BBQ leftovers are danger magnets. Skewers, rib bones, corn cobs, fatty scraps, and dropped sticks can cause choking or blockages. Pick up after gatherings and block off grill areas.

Yard debris is sneaky. Sticks with sharp ends, broken plastic toys, and garden project leftovers can all harm pets. Cats especially love batting around things that definitely should not be batted.

If you need outdoor-safe toys, yard-friendly chews, or cleanup tools, The Hungry Puppy has gear to help keep your yard fun — not hazardous.

Pets explore with enthusiasm. Your job? Make sure the adventure stays safe.
